We have been maintaining a score of 9.7 over the last 2 years,, however, we now having a similar problem. All 10s = 8 overall? All 10 = 7 overall?
Both reviewers did not leave comments and we are therefore unable to identify why such a low overall score or able to comment on their reviews!?
Many guests tell us they read reviews before selecting accommodation and in some cases, reviews are more important than tariffs.
The only difference between the previous review system and the present one is a sliding scale the reviewer uses to inform the reader how their stay was? The question 'how was your stay' is ambiguous and broad in itself. I'm sure many guests will read this question as separate from the 6 categories about the host and instead as an individual question on the OVERALL stay, I.e. the holiday etc. For us hosts, if BDC was to add words to the question - 'how was your stay' to 'how was your stay' (e.g.) at the accommodation! We might see a difference.
At this time we will see many quality hosts start to slide down on the overall scoring, which WILL lead to less bookings.
BDC allow potential guests' to multi-book same dates at various accommodation providers within the same locality, this leads to a high level of cancellations. For micro businesses, this is not good practice/policy and certainly affects occupancy levels, which in turn leads to lower income for both the accommodation provider and BDC. Although we have raised this a number of times with BDC, both verbally and in writing, NOTHING has changed.
