Jut in case anyone thought I may be exaggerating... firstly "Redford" named by my wife after the most handsome man she knows.... then this years' offspring...
We leave the room as we would like to find rooms left for us... we don't strip beds etc but rather than leave a tip to be taken by the duty housekeeping staff we tend to leave a large box of chocolates for them to share and a note saying thank you - provided the housekeeping was up to our own standard that is!
Choosing the room is more important - we always phone and check on rooms dimensions/location direct with the hotel - for our four/five days off each year this is important.
Invariably we meet the owner/manager whilst staying and let him take to any room he feels would suit us better - for future reference. Just as we do with our own guests - a good way of getting them to trade-up on their next visit!
"Come fox watching" - we have entire fox families in our garden, guests come down for breakfasts which go cold as they spend time watching/photographing the foxes...
Well Larry I am pleased that you are happy, because I cannot see you generating much of a profit from this set up - laundry costs alone will make a hefty hole in your income and by the time you have laundered/dried towels etc, I could envisage your pension supporting the B&B....
Just encountered another good reason for servicing every day - entered one room to find drops of tea or coffee spilled on the carpet - it is easier to minimize the damage if this is done as soon after the spill as possible rather than three days later....
You intrigue me Info - how do you clean the bathrooms daily without entering the rooms - I assume the rooms are en-suite?
Laura - it may help if the Booking.com employee was responding to the concerns raised by Margmunro rather than "apparently" ignoring two emails...?
I would also urge owners to double-check hair curlers and straighteners - the number of these we have found left on in rooms beggars belief, also had one carpet ruined by the imprint of a steam iron that a guest brought with them and left on the carpet whilst ironing clothes on the bed, the perfect shape of the iron left face down on the carpet - most people ask for the iron and ironing board - not this lady!
The iron burn was not avoidable but I hate to think of hair curlers/straighteners left on all day when the guest goes out!
