What happened at Click. by Booking.com

From thought-provoking speakers to compelling workshops, we go behind the scenes at Click. by Booking.com

Earlier this month, over 1,000 industry minds came together for the 2019 edition of Click. by Booking.com, our annual thought leadership conference.

It was an inspiring two days of insights around the future of the connected experience. Guest speakers including futurist Magnus Lindkvist and technology guru Neil Sands brought challenging perspectives from outside the industry, while closer to home a host of Booking.com leaders including Pepijn Rijvers, Matt Swann, Arjan Dijk and Ripsy Bandourian explored the opportunities that lie ahead for the industry and our partners.

Opening the stage on day two, Mary Portas, the celebrated retail expert hailing from the UK, opened our minds to the concept of “status sentience” and shared thoughts on changing behaviours around consumption along with the real roots of decline on the British high street. Booking.com and Booking Holdings CEO, Glenn Fogel, went under the microscope during an in-depth Q&A that covered everything from how travel has evolved to cryptocurrencies and emerging markets.

Speaking to Click. Magazine at the event, Fogel shared his observations: “The energy! People are so excited to learn - from each other, from us - and go back to where they have come from to put into action all the things that they have learnt.

“[In 2020] I look forward to people enjoying the experience of travelling the world, learning new things and being able to experience different cultures. It’s the best thing in the world, I’ve always believed that.”

Over the course of the conference, numerous breakout sessions took place to explore everything from the mind of the modern global explorer and the art of discovering the next big trend to the new technologies fuelling the industry and building blueprints for the future. Ram Papatla, Vice President of Experiences at Booking.com spoke about the possibilities around the connected trip.

“I think this is a magical event … the production, the quality of the content, the engagement with our partners,” he said. “I wish we could do it more often and I’m excited we had this opportunity.”

Attending his third Click. event, Senior Director of Booking.com’s Content Agency, Chris Dell, was equally enthused this year: “I just love the atmosphere. It’s a thousand or so people who just care a lot about travel - we all look at it from a slightly different perspective but it doesn’t matter, we are all here because we care deeply about the industry.

“I fully appreciate that a partner has a particular perspective on Booking.com and I love being able to lift the lid and share a little bit - how it is working here - and I think they can see the passion that there is in all of us. I like partners being able to see that and building a really effective partnership.”
