cancellation characteristics

...........Just my thoughts about cancellations....

Guests cancelled because they booked the wrong date and for the time requested we've been fully booked - other guests made a reservation but didn't read through our children policy (the baby 11 month old) obviously, they had to cancel their reservation as we only accommodate children from 12 and older......

Now, when I have a look at the cancellation pattern / characteristics / rate at the analytics page and I wonder, if cancellations shouldn't be handled more specifically. Especially when I read through  " how to avoid cancellation" page, how to improve to avoid cancellations..... 

In case of a cancellation - is the Booker asked for the reason? It might be interesting to find out.....I have never cancelled a reservation myself so I don't know. 

Just a thought.......

Last November Gianbattista-Vespucci, Property Manager informed us about cancellations.

"What are you doing to improve guest payments and cancellations?

We know these topics can be a source of serious frustration for our partners, so we are working hard at resolving the issues around it. I’m happy to share that we now have a tech team dedicated to solving some of your biggest pain points with cancellations – two of them actually did a presentation about this at Click, our global partner event in Amsterdam, so some of you may have seen them there. The team has conducted research and added new features on our website designed to reduce harmful cancellations – such as checking more credit cards and making it harder for guests make overlapping bookings. We’ll be sharing more details soon, so please keep an eye in your inbox. I really hope your business will feel the impact of these innovations and cancellations will be less of an issue soon."

Until now I have not seen any changes in cancellations. Half of my reservations get cancelled!!!

Hope BDC finds soon a way to stop harmful cancellations for the benefit of all of us.
