What is the ideal number of days that a rate is non-refundable for?

Currently, my non-refundable rate is non-refundable between 0-30 days of bookings. What is other people's advice on this?

I have a policy where cancellation is free up until 3 days before check-in so I keep a non-refundable policy with an advanced reservation restriction of 3 days which means that you can book it only if it is minimally 4 or more days in advance. Why? Because Standard rate becomes non-refundable in that timeframe so a cheaper non-refundable is just a waste of profit which is why I only keep the more expensive one then.
