IBAN difficulties

I use an online bank N26. german based.

I live in France and my business is in France. I have been told that they cannot accept my IBAN as it is from a different country.

The participating countries of the SEPA area (Single Euro Payments Area) have agreed on the IBAN system in order to simplify national and international payments, and to reduce the risk of error in the communication and processing of transactions.

Merchants or employers who do not accept IBANs from other member states of the European Economic Area are violating European law as of 1 February 2016 (Article 9 of Regulation No 260/2012).

What and how do I get paid

Hi Tonyedwarddowney ,

Hope you are well, it seems like you are experiencing quite the struggle.

I suggest you contact your Account Manager to hear from him/her how to go about this. I've been on the forum a long while now, and the answer to "Can I get paid in my current country if the property is in another country?" is always a Resounding no. I'm not going to pretend to know the legal jargon, but perhaps your account manager can help you?

You can see his/her details on the extranet, Inbox -> Booking.com messages, on the right hand side.

Best of luck!

Perhaps if you receive feedback regarding this, you can post it here so that we can share it with everyone else?

Here was the reply. Something that can apparently NOT be overridden , this needs to be resolved as my bank has stated clearly that an IBAN from a member state cannot be refused and is violating European Law.

Dear partner,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

We apologize for the delay and thank you for your patience.

We would like to clarify that the legal entity country of the invoicing details and the country bank account for payout need to be the same. This is a requirement set in the bank detail request form that we can not override. Therefore it is not possible to set the payout account to an account in any country other than France.

We hope this clarified the issue to your satisfaction.

For questions about invoicing or other finance-related issues, feel free to contact our Finance Department. Telephone : +33157329342 (Office hours Monday-Friday 9 to 17:00)

Thank you for working with Booking.com.
Best regards,

Have you found a solution? I have the same issue.

I was thinking that the only solution would be to report Booking.com as non-compliant to my national authority.

Merchants or employers who do not accept IBANs from other member states of the European Economic Area are violating European law (Article 9 of Regulation No 260/2012).

Oh boy.

That is not good news. Well listen, remember to send this feedback to Booking.com by using the Send Feedback button on the bottom of the page on your Extranet. If enough people request this, then they will look into a way of helping us.

I've done so. The more the merries and the better chances we have!

I came across the same issue lately. I want to use my N26 account and close the national one due to higher costs. All other portals (Airbnb, HomeAway, Tripadvisor) don't have a problem with that, except for Booking.com. I can't understand that Booking.com can violate EU regulation. The suggestion for further actions are:

Merchants or employers who do not accept IBANs from other member states of the European Economic Area are violating European law as of 1 February 2016 (Article 9 of Regulation No 260/2012). If you are ever affected by IBAN discrimination, please contact your relevant national authority directly and notify them. Provide your contact details, the name of the merchant or company that didn’t accept your IBAN, as well as a brief description of the incident (including a screenshot of the rejection or other documentation of your communication with them).

Kind regards,

Polona
