Invalid Credit Card details

Hi everyone,

I am facing this trouble in my property and especially during the weekends. People make the booking many days in advance choose the payment option to pay at the time of arrival and share the invalid credit card number. Then they don't turn up and since it is a payment on arrival we cant charge during day.

By the time we realize the guest is not showing up we try to charge the credit card which also goes decline and we end up not selling the room even if we there was a market demand at some point of time during day.

But till the time the picture gets clear to us its already too late.

I am clueless what to do?? 

Looking forward for advise from partners.

Hi,

Please change your booking policy, create 2 types such as one should be advance purchase / non refundable and another is general. Under NR - you can charge the card on the booking date and for general you can pre-authorize the card 48 hrs in advance for which you can use the booking.com help by changing your booking policy. I am sure this will help you.

You can change your payment policies. Either take full payment at time of booking, charge a deposit or pre authorise the card. If the payment system you put in place shows the card as invalid, you can get the booking cancelled.

But in case of NOT non refundable booking (general bookings)How can I pre authorize my payment...will it be done by me or Booking.com??

How can I get this done?

If it is a general booking and not a virtual card (means booking.com card) in that case you can pre-authorize the card by taking the card details from booking.coma and pre-authorize it, but before doing it I strongly recommend to check your policy and amend it accordingly.

Always difficult to admin this - if you pre-authorise a card it takes time and then only lasts a certain amount of time so if people are booking ahead you are stuffed and I think you have to tell them what you are doing....

I'm looking at taking a minimum payment upfront.... might work for some people...

That is correct. pre-authorizing is no guarantee, the bank policies surrounding this varies regarding how long it will last. Bookings made far in advance would definitely not work with this system. Not forgetting that a guest can ask their bank to remove the hold and the bank will accede.

The best way is to charge a nonrefundable booking deposit. Choose a policy like the one that talks about a percentage down and if cancelled or modified, the same is the penalty.

client says that payement has done bij proceeding booking and the payement is done to booking company and not to us . Is this possible ?

Info. Is this for a future booking? Or is the guest with you now?

If the guest is with you now, you need to phone BDc.

If for a future booking, there is no need for you to "speak" to the guest, I find the simplest way is to report the invalid card on the system, if the guest then doesn't supply valid details, request the Booking to be cancelled, again via the system.
