Taking advance payments.

Many guests do not seem to know when they have to pay.

When we first started with bdc we reluctantly had to allow payment at property, and many guests arrived  thinking they had paid when they booked, so they were not pleased when we asked for payment.

We now require payment in advance and all rooms are marked as "non refundable". But that is confusing to guests as "non refundable" does not mean "payment taken when you book"  So some guests think they can pay when they arrive. Some others do not have money in their accounts because they do not realise payment can be taken when they book.

Is there a better way to let guests know they will be charged straight away. How do other properties manage taking payments? Ideally I would like all bookings to be paid at time of booking using virtual card payment, but bdc say this is not possible.

Hi Michael, I'm having the same issue. I wish to take full payment upon booking without having to offer a non-refundable discounted rate.

BDC are being very unhelpful with offering a solution and as you say their virtual card payment cannot be used on its own, we must offer a pay on arrival solution too. 

What I think I will do is ensure there is a clear statement written at the top of the 'Fine Print' section which is shown to the guest whilst browsing your property and then at the booking stage.

Dear Michael and Hotel 123, I think the same as you, especially when thinking

than the credit card info is often not valid for the payment in case of no show.

I was wondering if you succeeded to do so!

If you don't mind, it would be great to benefit from your stories,

and how you are dealing with this now!
