We're searching for a replacement guest

Has anyone else noticed this , we came across it by accident today

 

It appears the guest cancelled a future booking with booking.com but whilst booking.com has cancelled it they have not cancelled it with us so it is still  on our system instead on the booking.com page for that reservation it has a message saying

 

We're searching for a replacement guest

Your guest cancelled their reservation but we're looking for a new guest with your latest price with extra marketing efforts. If we can’t find a replacement before 16:08 on 5 Feb 2019, we’ll officially cancel the reservation.

 

Now this is not part of Risk Free reservations which we are not opted in to and there is no mention of it online that this is now their new policy to hold on to cancellations to resell them and no way of opting out. This and the new basic deals have never been agreed by hotels and its getting a bit too much if you ask me

Just seen this is now every cancellation they are doing this with, cancel it online but not with the hotel. This just caused an issue as a guest called to check their cancellation and rightly the reception told them it wasn't cancelled as as far as they could see it was still on our system. have booking.com thought this through as if they do not send the cancellation through then we still have it on our PMS. the only way to find out the true status of a booking now is to log in to booking.com every time to check the actual booking page
