Why is it so hard to get 'payments by booking.com' ? THE reason for no-shows...

We are trying now for 3 months to get our listings set to 'payments by booking.com'... Why???

We took over the business from another partner and the setting 'Cash' cannot be changed to 'payments by booking.com'.

Now, guests do not need a credit card or prepayment, so we are getting a lot of NO SHOWS. And some 'weird' people book our apartment with no intention to come over (is it for visa purposes)?

It is not only frustrating, but we are losing money... and so is Booking.com.

Our 'old' listing do not have these problems, as we set the feature immediately to 'payments by booking.com'.

And no, we don't want virtual credit cards...

Any suggestions?

Be very careful. I have my properties with this system. They collect the payment and pay you on the 15 of the next month that the guests check out. For example. I have a long booking checking out in January 2020, I will only get paid on 15 Feb altough guest already has paid them in full. Our low season very much depends on the cashflow that comes from these non refundable bookings for the next high season so I asked booking.com to cancel the payments. And you can't opt out!!!!

I wouldn't take it again.

Hi,

I know the difference as we have 8 listings. 4 on payments by BC and 4 not. I can assure you that we only have no shows with the 'cash' payment or no prepayment needed.

No shows cost us a lot of money... no income and loads of work. I don't mind to get paid later... at least you get paid.

It took me about 3 month ¨waiting time¨ to get invited to the payments by booking, went through a ton of cancellations and no shows as well. In the interim we actually asked for bank transfers from guests, as at least that way it gives you some security and people with a real intention to book didn´t have a problem doing that.

It´s *** that you can´t opt out and that they´re shady about the payments - I mean if guest reserves a long time ahead, they would only get charged immediately if its a no cancellation booking, and it only makes sense thay you get the money issued after they stay because who knows if your hotel burns down and you can´t accomodate them and then what...

Oh, and the agent´s aren´t always properly trained, I actually flipped out when the third time calling about the same issue and every time talking to a different person, got different info. What I mean is, call and pester them, ask to speak to a supervisor, make sure you get heard and you get to the botteom of what exactly is their policy.

We had waited 3 months and calling them they said that we will have to wait 3 months more bec the last agent had put us back on the credit card thing and that invalidated the previous wait period. I asked to talk to a supervisor, told them that it´s total nonsense that we´re both losing money bec of their incompetence, wrote an email to the head office...generally turned the hell around. And somehow 3 days later suddenly got accepted into the program...Don´t give up!

Hi Sid,

Payments by Booking is only available for eligible 'cash only' properties. If you do not see the option to join under the Finance tab, it may mean that you have not selected to be a 'cash only' property in your Policies page or that you are simply not eligible. You can try to change your payment preferences to be 'cash only' but there is a 30 day waiting period from when you do so.

Kind regards,

Shirley E.

Thanks Shirley, But when I call support, they are saying waiting time is 3 months. Is there any other alternative please? It is really needy for me to save time

It's also a good idea to switch to independent payment gateway. Then can be more flexible with how much you charge and when. Plus, you can also charge guests for ерру additional service. We are using our channel manager payment gateway and has no troubles with payments and now show.

Which channel manager are you using? I am using Guesty for Hosts and having issues. They have only told me to contact Booking.com with no help.

I am having the EXACT SAME ISSUES. I have had over $10,000 of no-shows, which means that it can't be booked on Airbnb or VRBO, in the last TWO WEEKS alone and have been unable to get any straight answer from Booking.com. I have dozens of reviews on Airbnb as a Superhost and a Premier Host on VRBO. At this point, I am going to be forced to remove my property from Booking.com unless I can get some sort of resolution ASAP. I need to either collect pre-payment from guests or be opted into Payments by Booking.com.

Guys, it's exactly the same for me.  I have only used AirBnB and VRBO who are soooooo easy to deal with.  I have no idea why Booking.com don't automatically offer this option.  Instead they clutter your inbox and dashboard with suggestions of 'offers' and 'discounts' to attract customers, when all the genuine ones want is an easy way to pay.  No one wants to pay cash anymore - well no one genuine that is - it's nearly 2023 and we've come out of the other side of a world pandemic.  I have offered 'cash only' for a long time and haven't been invited (gosh doesn't that make you seem like you should be honoured) to online payments or payments by booking.  I haven't had a single booking from Booking.com yet don't have any issues with AirBnB and VRBO and the only different thing is customers can pay very easily via a medium of their choice.  I'm only leaving my place on there as I'm interested to see what will happen if I ever get blessed with the glorious offer of an invite for them to actually make any money out of me.  I'd starve if I was reliant on them on their own.
