Guest book but don't check in.. Big problem for small BB S when allocating rooms

Some guests book multiple properties but choose only one to stay, the non booked property is kept booked till the last arrival day and guest don't bother to cancel it either.
This creates a headache to a property owner, one way to put up a no show when the guest don't check in, next is it prevents, another potential guest to book as the room is blocked in the system. When the payment is at check in, when the BB don't charge the guest at booking, it's to the benefit of the guest and we at the BB are at the losers end, bcoz of a guest who never bothers to cancel the booking, if they don't intend to stay
I see lot of bookings get cancelled, when guests take THE FREE CANCELLATION clause to their hands. I believe this way of promoting a BB /Hotel gives less reliance of Booking. Come
Compared with other sites, who charge at least some amount of the booking. So the guest has a duty to honor the BB reservation in a genuine way, rather than booking multiple hotels and wait till te last day to cancel or sometimes never bother to cancel either.

Booking. Com team, Pls implement a proper system to prevent such bogus bookings, as in time to come, many BB S Will put to go for more conformed booking engines, without the caption FREE cancellation, when guests take for granted and heywhey they book and cancel without any financial commitment to themselves or booking engine either.

Hope my request will be looked even in 2019 .

Dear...,

There is a way and you're not using it.

Start thinking about yourself first, put a strict cancellation policy, ask for online payment and then you shouldn't have as much trouble as before.

If you don't do that, you will keep having no-shows and cancellations that you cannot charge.

Best of luck,

There are two ways to avoid such situation:

1) Online payments PLUS strict cancelation policy

Set up your bank account and start to receive online payments. After we did that, we started to experience MORE bookings, less cancelations, more responsible am (and less complaining, he he) guests! I would say, that the guests are also very organized, being punctual and in most cases, planning their trip ahead of time. This is the kind of people, that takes effort to deal with online payments. Oh, and normally they do not hide their identity like address and telephone number, not to mention their name. You can set up in your Booking account, would you like your guests to book ONLY if they provided their telephone number / address / etc

Another benefit, that your relationship with Booking customer service will improve. Cash payments for them is also big headache. And here is the "secret" too: Booking loves Paying property owners :)

The strict cancelation policy alone will not work (who cares about cancelation, if they didn't pay anyway?) Strict cancelation policy works perfect with Online payments by Booking. I suggest, however, do not be super strict with your clients :)

2) Another OTA

One platform is not an answer to all your problems. KEEP YOUR DOORS OPEN. If someone keeps your room blocked on Booking (and it takes time for Booking to manually remove it), the same room will be available on Airbnb. In that case you should not use any automated synchronization and be very responsible in updating your calendars manually. From my experience...its less stress than dealing with irresponsible not paying ghost clients!

Unfortunately the Online Payment option isn't available everywhere in the world.

It would be great if they rolled it out further so that lots of other properties can make the most of the option rather than the cost of having to pay for electronic payment machines.

Also, definitely needs to be some control so that people can't just book multiple properties for the same nights. No shows and late cancellations are a big headache.

Dear Sharon,

To avoid these, use services like mine. You can then charge cancellations, no-shows and have zero worries.

We offer partners payment solutions from Virtual Card processing to full Debit/Credit Card processing, regardless where you're located.

If interested, leave me a message through my website and let's talk details.

"electronic payment machines"

Payments by Booking do not require electronic payment machines". It's free for a hotelier.

Where are you from?

I am in New Zealand which isn't part of the booking.com payments system. You would think I was in the back of beyond!!!

So its either a debit/credit card machine which costs a lot of money for a small business. Or cash, which I find works well until I have a no-show or late cancellation as I can't collect from them.

We have a perfectly good banking system so not sure why they don't do the payments. They manage to collect their invoices perfectly well each month.
