Location Why does this need to be rated?

My property is located two minutes drive from the town centre. We are a rural location near a seaside town.

Guests book us knowing where we are located (ie not in the main street of town) yet many repeatedly give us a low rating for location without any explanation.

Why is location even a ratable option on the review system?

I cannot move my property next to the noisy pub just because you want to eat. If I did do this, the next complaint would be "it was too noisy"

Please take "location" out of the review system. We are located where we say we are, it cannot be changed and if you don't like the location don't book it.

Dear Ginascott57,

We also have this issue, the lowest rating we have is the location, which in my and many other's opinion is excellent, near the forest, still in the city, quiet and with great views.

However many would like to have all that and for it to be in the city center, so they can crawl to a bar, get drunk and not need to drive.

Well, the location review is ok to have, until people understand what they need to review regarding the location.

First of all, they have a map, they can check if it is close to something or not, if you book my place, you'll be near the edge of the city, do not expect city center then.

People are just ignorant of many things and that's what happens. If you put all the information into your description, that's the most you can do, or maybe call or text every guest telling them about the location (which I find to be a stupid process).

Best regards,

Zsolt - www.thuild.com

I have the same issue, and I think it is unfair when one we cannot help what the issue is or move the property to satisfy each and every guest. It needs to be removed.

I agree that the location has to be removed. The guests know exactly where they are going. Maybe ilocation has to be rephrased.

My property on the booking.com page reads 'Excellent location - show map'. The guests choose to book at my location, so why do they give me a 7.5 rating for location? It doesn't make sense. How can I improve this ratings if guests book where they don't actually want to be?

How to we get booking.com to remove the location ratings as an option for guest to rate us? Something has to be done.

I now send a letter as soon as I receive a booking giving lots of details about my home but I also say that I assume they have checked the map and are happy with my location. That way, if they want to change their minds, they have the 24hour grace period so can cancel for free. Hopefully, guests will actually read my letter and that will stop people rating my location at 7.5. I'll keep my fingers crossed. It would make much more sense not to have a location rating but I think we will wait a long time before booking.com change this.

We've also wondered about this. There is nothing that can be done about the physical location on the edge of a lovely village in the Highlands of Scotland so we assume people mark us in this box on how easy it was to find the property. SatNavs cane problematic here and the streets don't have signs showing the street name. So now as soon as a booking is made, as well as sending information about the house and local restaurant info via the message system on the extranet, we also send a map with dots leading from the village centre to the property. As a result we've had fewer low scores for location than before although we'll never stop them completely.
