Guests want to travel more sustainably

Hi everyone!

Our research shows that consumers’ overall attitudes towards sustainable travel practices are very positive.

The infographic below summarises sustainable attitudes of travellers across 30 countries. Results show that 84% of guests want to reduce general waste on their future trips. Similarly, 83% would like to reduce their energy consumption.

Other areas for improvement are using more environmentally friendly types of transport (79%), a willingness to reduce water consumption (76%) as well as reducing or paying off their carbon footprint (69%).

How do you help guests reach their sustainability goals through practices you offer in your property?

Hi Didem!

I have just returned from my trip to Hamburg and I have realised that Germans are very interested in sustainable development….

I always advise my guests to turn off the air conditioner and open the windows so the fresh breeze comes in…

In my house rules I suggest not to change towels every day…

Food waste is gathered so everyday I give it to my neighbors chickens…which in return they give me fresh eggs which my guests appreciate very much…

I have solar system for hot water…and solar lights…

Hope we can all help our environment…

Hi @M Adamopoulou ,

Awesome tips!

Thanks so much for sharing these insights!

I'm sure they're useful for other partners who would like to practise sustainability in their properties, too.

And I hope you had a great time in Hamburg :). Have a lovely day!!!

Hi,

As we just started our short term rental this year, we are still learning and improving our sustainable ways and ensuring guests contribute to this cause.

At start, we ensure in our suite have specific bins labelled for compostable and recyclables. We also have also place notice on our laundry room for guest to be mindful on water consumption. This coming winter we will place notifications for guest be mindful with heating consumption (hopefully works).

Thanks!

Christian

Many many hugs is also another way to heat our hearts…lol…

I like M Adamopoulou have put in place sustainable "green" processes to encourage our guests to use these services. I also have Solar panels, A rated appliances etc. I have also just installed a charging point for electric cars. An issue I have with the Booking.com Website is that it does not help to highlight these credentials. I think it may be useful if these could be picked out and highlighted on the Home page of the advert.

Hi!

Being sustainable is very important but also very expensive!!!

Charging point for electric cars must be very expensive!

At least our properties have the Travel Sustainable Property badge!!!
