Country selection

Hello,

Can I include or exclude countries from which the booking for my flat will come from?

Best regards

Helmut

Hi there,

Thanks for the post!

I actually have no idea. But to my knowledge, definitely not because Booking.com is in international platform. And you won't be able to cancel bookings of people from specific countries.

Perhaps phone a friend from booking.com and ask if they can maybe make a plan.

They will probably just suggest adding in the fine print that you prefer certain guests. Although that might make a lot of people not want to book.

Best of luck!

Heya,

Meanwhile I have learned that you can, with GeoRate, advertise to specific countries (special rates of course). This won't block people from specific countries to book at your property, but it will definitely help with getting more from a certain place.

Hope this makes sense?

Hi Leandri,

What is GeoRate? Is it Genuis discount to certain countries?

I don't think you can choose which country can book your placel as it falls under discrimination.

Katerinka, Leandri is probably referring to this:

In Opportunities tab

Get more bookings by offering a Genius country rate New

You can now offer a special rate to Genius guests from specific countries. This will boost your visibility in the search results and increase your bookings from these guests. Choose who you'd like to reach today and see what geo-targeting can do for you!

I hope Richard is reading it.

I think that Safety is our number 1 concern. I believe that Helmut opened this topic for any other reason rather than discrimination. Safety, of course, and most probably protection from false bookings.

No secret, but some countries (in Europe) suffer from false bookings when people book just to show hotel reservations for the sake of getting visa and never do actually come.

Another big "secret" that men from country X go to country X for sex, and only for sex. No matter how I tried to believe, but nothing has changed for past 20 years. This should be a concern for every host, but especially for those who have hostel, guest house or any other type of Shared place.

I really don't know why Booking doesn't do anything in regards of Safety. Safe host means safe guest, by the way...

On Airbnb I posted straight to the point that drug users are prohibited and will be reported to police and immigration authorities. I hope it will help me to avoid people that just get knife...

While I understand that Booking and Airbnb can't guarantee safety, at least on Airbnb we have an option to write our own "rules". But Booking is not doing anything to protect the host. As long as guest has money on credit card (by the way, not guaranteed its actually His credit card), he can book under false name, false address and telephone number.

Many of the hosts do not have such luxury as having a well trained security guards and other human resources and equipment to detect potential harmful guest.

I suggest Booking should allow us to cancel the reservation (one way! Without guest confirmation!), if we find the guest uses false personal information. It will help Booking as well. You can't imagine how many bookings I got with names like prtuucdgjjd and telephone number like 3464245147852268755. From Vanuatu as well!

And do you know Murphy's law? Once you prohibit certain country, many guests will come from that particular place, but having a passport of another country :)

Katerinka I understand what you are saying and surely Helmut opened this thread having in mind the safety rules but I think countries cannot be excluded. Not all citizens are the same. There should be other measures that can be enforced instead for the safety of hosts and guests.

I am also very concerned about safety and I have send feedback to BDC, hoping that something serious can be done to protect us.

In my listing I have also included that drugs are prohibited.

Ms. Katerinka,

I totally agree with you. Actually booking.com sometimes doesn't do anything to protect the host. I have faced lots of difficulties because of that.

Some guests make reservation and come. But if he or she finds an another place more cheaper than us, they cancel the reservation. So I made policies roughly. But after that we didn't have any reservations. Again i had to come to the previous method.

Hello you two!

Hope you are well.

No Geo Rate is something seperate from the Genius Country Rate. Booking.com is still launching it in some places but it is technically available.

You do need to request it via Booking.com, see if it is available for your property. So basically you can decide the country and the discount, then Booking.com markets your property. But, you don't have to belong to the Genius programme.

Thanks Leandri for informing us. I thought you had to be part of Genius to have that promotion available.
Keep well.

Heya M

Noooo worries. It's basically the same except it's for the muggles who are not on the Genius program.
