Booking.com help for small accommodation providers?
So, will Booking.com start providing some financial support for those of us who are seeing cancelled bookings due to Covid? Airbnb is offering 25% of the booking cancellation fee to their accommodation providers for every cancelled booking in addition to a possible $5000 one time payment for smaller operations. Airbnb has beaten you to the punch, so what will you do for your partners, Booking.com?
Hi
At this point in time no such assistance has been offered.

Given that your competitors are starting to offer financial help, now would be time to start thinking about it. You cannot make money without us and if other platforms treat us better we will be going with them in the future.
Intersting, I don't see those 25% in my canceled bookings on AirBnB.
Airbnb will start paying out at the end of April
Acidic comment incoming: I am sure you will be offered to take part in the genius program giving discounts from 10% upwards for Booking.com most loyal customers. This is the help you will be getting. There will be no reduction in commission or financial help coming from booking.com ....and if it will come with a hell of a catch.
Airbnb just announced the program. It will be retroactive and cover cancelled bookings from Mar 14-May 31. They have just started it up and it will take effect shortly.
And basicly hosts that will be eligable for this generous feature are those that have set their cancelation policy strict. So they would receive 25% of the 50% of the booking. Most guests will/did cancel early. I can't see how many guests selected non-refundable rate though.
I think the policy is that any guest with a booking made before Mar 5 for up to May 31 will automatically get a full refund. The 25% that a host receives comes directly from Airbnb, not the guest. Yes, only those with a strict policy and who are "superhosts" are going to benefit and it is not a huge amount, but it is something. In addition, apparently those small, in-home hosts that meet the criteria can also apply for a one time $5000 payment to help keep them afloat. What is interesting to me is that the Airbnb commission charged to hosts is much less than Booking.com commission, yet Airbnb are the ones who are stepping up to help their hosts with real money. Special advertising rates, etc are not going to help any host if the community they are in has a municipal shutdown of all accommodation providers due to covid, as ours does.
Yes, 25% based on your cancelation policy.
AirBnB basicly earns even more commission then BDC. They just picked different strategy, but the outcome is the same or even better. BDC charges 15%, AirBnB charges 3,5% but also charges the guest additionaly 12 - 18%. So I had to set lower rates on AirBnB because of that so that I can match prices with BDC.
Well last year I opted for fixed 14% commission on AirBnB so guest pays 0€ for AirBnB "service fee" (commission).
pibmarco That's interesting. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that the guests were charged so much through airnbnb. Fact still remains that airbnb is the one offering some kind of help while Booking is not.
I agree... just wanted to be sure about those facts, because I should receive around 800€ from those 25% from cancelations, but in most cases probably I won't be eligable because of my "flexible" policies. It just sounded too good to be true from the main post :)
pibomarco thanks for your informative comments...
How are things in your country???
Generally everything is fine.. Borders and most businesses are closed.. local politics and media are exaggerating in my opinion, but better days are to come sooner or later. Enjoying the vacation basicly. :)
Looks like politics and media exaggerating game - softly say..... hospitals have usual amount of people, no lines of people to get tested as media saying and no sick people in the tents... Video from NY, FL, CA , Germany the same... tents are empty...google #emptytents #emptyhospitals Where are those thousands of sick people? Enjoy your vacation
Dear Marita, maybe politics and media are exaggerating but please stay safe.
Wish everyone well.
Nice to hear that everything is fine...
Enjoy the vacation and relax staying at home...

Hi every one. I'm missing my visitors, to now, 41 cancellations, but I got one booking to September today.
We are safe, stay home, do garden work, try to stay positive and do things together.
In 15 years I paid commission to Booking.com, and I got most of my booking from Booking.com, I'm happy for the time I was working with them, I could not do it on our own website.
If booking.com will offer a kind of Compassations in this difficult time, I don't know, how to answer. My government offer 1500€ to our kind of business, but I don't think we can get anything. - maybe we will be "taxfree" next year...
What are you doing there, is everybody safe and healthy???? I hope.
Best wishes, stay safe
Lucy
