My "white guests" abandon the booking as soon as they find out that my property is situated in the so-called "coloured area" Last week the couple came in, made an excuse that they want to buy supper and never returned. Today, another guest called to enquire whether it is a coloured area and then i received his cancellation right after the phone call.

Kindly advise.  Should i state in which area my property is situated?  How do i manage these cancellations which is based on the colour of the area?  With both bookings, i had alternative private bookings which i cancelled. This means i loose revenue.

Please advise

Hi Abelene

feckin' hell , thats.. just.. wow, just terrible.

So here is what I would do and suggest, no refunds at all.

And if someone contacts to ask that question again  simply say: its 2021, and that is not an acceptable question in this day and age, and hang up on them.

You dont need to state anything like that about area, it is on them to do their homework before booking.

@Brookave

They cancel even if they are told that their vehicles will be behind locked gates, with cameras and guarddogs.

Funniest of all, their preffered area has the highest crime rate in town.  i guess we need to accept that generations will pass before this thing dies out. It hurts though as we also want to get into business...

Hello, Abelene Goezaar

It is indeed awful. Booking.com is outspoken on Inclusion, Diversity and Belonging. We fully support you in NOT making explicit in which area the property is located. There is no reason for a refund.

The customer's behavior is shameful. Please use our form to report it as well: https://partner.booking.com/en-gb/help/first-steps/first-reservations/h… This would technically fall under "Abusive/ rude behavior". Thank you for flagging this!
