Warning about certain guests on the Gold Coast

I am putting out a warning to other hosts about some serious threats I received on Friday evening from a guest who booked with me after I had to cancel their reservation due to a double booking I had received because my booking.com calendar wasn't syncing with the other platforms we are listed on. 

I received 3 phone calls from one of the guests from the cancelled booking asking for directions to the property which I mis-understood to be one of the guests staying at the property as they stated that they couldn't get hold of their family who had already arrived at the property. (in hindsight I should have asked the name of the guests who placed the original booking.)

This was at 10:30pm in the evening. Following that I received 2 more phone calls from them (man and  woman) pleading for help to find the property stating that they were lost and they had driven from Cairns. I kindly answered their calls for help and did my best as a host to assist them. Then at 12am I received a very abusive and threatening phone call form the man accusing me for cancelling his friends booking. His threats were very nasty and quite scary. 

I have also reported them to Booking.com and the police.

I know this was really scary but maybe it was better than having them to stay.  Doesn't sound like they would be the best guests to have around.

As this is a worldwide forum it is really difficult to get this out there for local hoteliers that are close to you.  Do you have any sort of local hotel association?

Yes I was counting my blessings that they did not stay. Thanks for your point regarding getting this message out locally. They have since tried to re-book with me and I have cancelled their booking. However I'm afraid they will try to book in another name. Not sure a way around this.

That's all you need with everything else that is going on with covid.  Don't think there is a way round it, you can mark a reservation with Guest misconduct and ban them but using a different name then doesn't work.  Other than closing all rooms while they are around but that stops all business.
