BDC pushing us to accept Online Payments

BDC have allowed their partners users to prepay which forces venues to accept in principle Online Payments that potential comes with the associated commission fees. We take payment on departure directly.  We have then be questioned by BDC as to our payment process with our guests and stressing why we do it that way.

Has anyone else had these issues.

Hi Andrew,

This does sound odd, both topics do in fact.

I'm struggling to understand why you would increase your risk of non payment, by only taking payment on check out.

Would suggest there is more to this than what is captured in the description above.

As for BdC Online Payments, thats only 1 of 2 options they offer, that one being free to use.

But there is of course going to be a commission always no matter which is used unless you are also operating a 3rd party booking engine.

I've never seen one person on here claim they do what you do. I know hotels typically will do it on checkout but they are a much larger commercial entity .

What type of listing is yours ? add it here if multiple or to your profile please which is a year old.

We have moved on from CC payments and use PAYM which is free. Pre payment does not affect our bookings we had one no show last year.  Cancellations are the biggest problem and most of those are from BDC.  People use BDC to reserve a number of hotels at a location and choose near the time and cancel, maybe, 5 or 6 BDC bookings for 1.  I understand the cancellation ratio at BDC is quite high.

Yes, we advertise our resort vacation rentals on my platforms, including the "Big Four" OTA's, smaller OTA's & Google, Facebook, direct/returning guests, etc.  By far BdC has the highest cancellation rate.  Guests use "Free Cancellation" as "Save To My Favorites" or "Add To Cart" as you would when browsing but not paying.  Then right before the free cancellation period ends they cancel all but one.  We're definitely not happy about this practice so we limit our free cancellation rates to a maximum number of days in advance at a much higher rate.
