It looks like they’ve just pinged this email out to everyone. I am in exactly the same situation as you. I’ve entered my micro entrepreneur number but it says invalid. I’m not sure how to contact B.com. Never had this issue with Airbnb .
Hi David,
When i signed up with BDC i ticked the box to say 'I wasn't VAT registered'.
Looking at other queries related to this, it looks like the 'Micro Entrepreneur' number won't be accepted. I don't understand why there isn't a button in the finance tab stating
'NOT VAT REGISTERED'
My thoughts too. I’m in exactly the same situation. I’ve looked on Facebook and there’s a thread there in the group Gîte Life, France
I think we’ll just have to wait and see what they say. I certainly don’t have a VAT number so can’t give them one!
Yes, I'm just going to ignore it for now.
I'm sure it'l get sorted....
Good Luck....
Hi got the same mail here in Greece, last time we had the option button to say that i dont have Vat number now there isn't one. The one thing that stresses me is that the email said final date 30/8.
Thank you for pointing that out.
We have a private property in Greece too and since we are not operating through a company we don't have a VAT number.
No one from booking.com to talk to about it but hopefully it will be resolved soon.
Will leave its for now until provision for private boating has been added / re-added.
It could just be a glitch, bug or someone just forgot to add the NO VAT button! lol
Don't stress, they want our money so I'm sure there not going to stop everyone that this has gone out to!!! ;o)
Thanks Christopher, since i am not alone i am sure it will work out!!!!
First timer in Partner Hub feels nice to able to take and give advice, i think i will try to be an active memeber.
Same here. We are VAT registered for our business in Spain but it's saying the number is invalid. It's so frustrating!
I'm afraid it might not be a glitch. I've been wrecking my brain over this all night since I received the notice and it appears to me that, since 1 July 2021, if you receive any 'electronic service' from another EU country, you have to register for VAT. I know Booking.com cannot be offering VAT advice but they should've briefed on this as they have a lot of private individual clients, and it's not entirely clear what is and is not an "electronic service", and I highly doubt they haven't already had EU VAT specialists advise them on this, resulting in this absolutely-out-of-the-blue notice they've sent out. PLEASE SOMEBODY CORRECT ME :(
You don't have to be VAT registered. It's not a legal requirement, as long as you are declaring your earnings & paying your tax to how the relevant country requires you to do so.
Then booking.com have to detect the difference between private hosting and company hosting and only request a VAT number for company hosted accounts. Easy.
I noticed on my profile where I entered the license number I hadn’t set the category to “Registration number” but left it as default which looked like a business category. Corrected now but I wonder if this is causing the problem ?
Same here guys , I am Italian but I do not have any VAT registration as I am a private individual , not any enterprise ........ Booking.com is making life complicated all the time without a proper help center assistance ..... have you tried the "fake" help chat line with the virtual assistant ?? Horrible , it makes you even more angry .....
We are coming off Booking.com in the autumn. Airbnb is so much easier. The worst thing with b.com is not being able to chat to a real person. VAT is serious and having to speak to a robot is ludicrous.
Scrolling through the Booking.com Partner Hub it appears that there are at least a dozen people asking the same question. Following a conversation with our lawyer in Spain I responded last night under the conversation started by Baia Luz Beach Apartament. It's a pity that we can't consolidate all the same conversations under one thread for all to see, but I guess it's up to the individual Partners to see if there is already a thread running before starting a fresh conversation on the same topic. Like David above, we are getting frustrated with Booking.com and have blocked off one property with them from the end of September.
I must admit we've not had problems with BDC before, this is the first glitch.
We've only been running our gite for two years now & try to push our own website as much as we can. We are about 50% BDC & 50% our website.
I do hope BDC sorts this out for everyone concerned.
We now have a response of sorts from an Account advisor at Booking.com.
Please see the thread under Baia Luz Beach Apartament.
Thanks Simon,
Thats very helpful.
I'm sure it will get sorted!
Hello all,
I am an Australian member of the Partner Services team and not in a position to give any financial or legal advice, so please take the following as informational only.
To reiterate the details shared in a separate post on the community hub, if partners are not VAT registered and have up to date tax advice supporting that position, there is no action required at the moment but it is advised to contact a local tax advisor to ensure that you are tax compliant with EU VAT legislation. If at any point in the future your property does register for VAT, the recent changes to our system make it possible for you to self-update your VAT details.
Kind regards,
Jarratt
Dear Partners,
I’d like to share some clarification on the VAT email some of you received last week.
Firstly, what’s happening
Unless you are located in the Netherlands (where Booking.com is based), you are receiving what are called cross-border services from us. This means you are responsible for meeting both local and EU VAT requirements, which may include self-assessing VAT on the services you receive. In line with this, we need to maintain a record of your VAT number to remain compliant with data reporting regulations.
Secondly, on next steps
For those of you who have already updated their VAT number, thank you! You can check everything is up to date via this link.
If you do not currently have a VAT number or have questions about your local and EU VAT obligations, we recommend that you speak to an expert on tax legislation in your particular region. Our tax team will follow-up via email in the coming period with reminders and we’d encourage you to maintain your records as per any advice you might receive.
We apologise if our email caused confusion and thank you for your patience while we were coming back to you.
Sergei
Buonasera, io anche ho ricevuto questa email. Sono nuova in queste chat e ho scritto un messaggio riferito alla mia struttura. Per caso potrebbe darmi una mano?
We do not have a VAT reg. no, as we are below the threshold required and trying to get VAT receipts for a loaf of bread and a couple of pain o'chocolates is not going to happen. On all my invoices i give to clients who ask for one for the company accounts i write we are not registered for VAT. The problem seems to lie with BDC as their registration form states VAT charged at 7%. This should be their problem on their commison amount not the overall cost of the booking.
