Cancellations due to Covid after 'Freedom day'

OK, bit of a sensitive question, but be interested in your thoughts and certainly one for the staff of to ponder so don’t flame me!! When does testing positive for Covid  not become a valid excuse for cancelling accommodation and getting a full refund from owners?

The Government is quite deliberately creating the perfect conditions for Covid cases to increase as opportunities to become infected increase considerably. Their reasoning being that the numbers of vaccinations allow that to happen as the severity of the virus is lessoned by the vaccination.

However, if we then get accommodation booking cancellations, we are losing valuable income! We are really not trying to be nasty, but returning 700 quid, from two bookings in the next week citing catching covid is not an insubstantial amount of money to lose at the last moment.

Surely pre-covid, any other holiday situation where you decided to cancel due to illness, you would claim off your holiday insurance and you wouldn't be looking for a full refund from the accommodation provider. Accommodation businesses who also need to survive are taking the hit.

What do you think is the answer?

Without being cruel here, from last April the force maejure is not applicable to bookings.

Therefore, I think the refund  is completely up to you.

You can offer them a date amendment instead.

Hope that helps
