Extra charges for electric vehicles

I'm a new host so  currently having a baptism by fire! We had a family arrive with an EV who parked on our lawn and plugged a granny charger into the kitchen via the window. How do others host deal with these issues?

Yeah I think a few of us already had this convo and it came down to :

  1. Provide a coin or digital interface on a charging socket outside
  2. Before guest leaves a smart meter or standard meter reading is taken.

This real issue with this is how to manage it in a easy and feasible way. Its a bit complex as you would need to know the meter reading before check-in. and have an allowance for the stay. and then how to take another reading before check out, t olook at the units used and see the difference of units above the allotted amount before you need to charge for the extra used.

this is what i mean by it not being straight forward.

the only solution would be a technology one.

It can be very hard to chase guests on checkout or after  , and even more so if you are not on site yourself.

Some might mitigate it using a deposit.
