Fake guests, incorrect contact numbers

I often get requests on last minute basis, and their contact numbers are totally wrong. It is for instance a south african number that starts with a 2.  Not possible at all. Then we have to sit up and wait for them, very inconvenient.  Does this happen to other people as well? How can you stop this?
