How to see reponses to threads that I follow here on the forum?

I feel a bit dumb - but where do we get notifications for responses to threads we've posted in?

Haha, not dumb at all. Once you've posted in a thread (or clicked on that Follow button), you will receive an email once someone has responded. (It will be the email address that you registered with).
