Can I cancel a reservation to attend close family funeral?

I appreciate that as a host I should not cancel any reservations, and I also appreciate that cancelling causes a lot of upset for the guests affected, but a very close relative has died and I have a fully booked up august. Can I cancel a reservation to be able to arrange/attend the funeral without receiving penalties from BC?

Best if you can find an alternative local offer, and pay for it then have PS team do it and invoice you.


They will never see these posts , so you are only asking other partners.


If you are only cancelling because you cant be there for when they are due to check -in , is thereno one you can ask to stand in for you, or give  phone number to for when they arrive?  

or hide the keys somewhere and when they arrive and ring you you can tell them where the key is ?



you have not mentioned how close the check in date is, maybe there is plenty of time for notice but be prepared to pay for relocation.

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately it includes a changeover so is difficult to get someone to cover for me. But I will look into alternative accommodation as you suggest, or perhaps I can find someone willing to do the changeover.
