PROMOTIONS/DEALS

Hello everyone, we are a small operation in New Zealand.  We have a lovely studio with its own shower and toilet.   Over the last few months Booking.com are putting out so many promotions for the guests, and some of them can back up to 3 different promotions making a huge difference to the amount we receive.  We supply a very substantial breakfast and personal toiletries which has helped make our reviews mainly 10/10.   We are starting to get rather annoyed that we are losing so much money.  We have started not putting out so much food/toiletries depending on what the guests are paying.  We are lucky here regarding Covid and not being affected by it at all.   Shall we put our base rate up?   Does anyone else feel the same and what are your thoughts.

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

Same here. Do you set Genius/Mobile Rate/Country Rates? Those are stacked with your current promotion, so your final rates are very less than your based rate. You should not set so many promotions. I prefer only one promotion in each period is enough. For me, I don't set any other promotions during this period, only Genius.

Hi thank you for your reply   I handn't set any promotions they just seemed to have happened!!   I will try and just have the Genius promotion.  I noticed my calendar was blocked from 6th June unless I reinstated the early bird for a 15% discount.

Hi Jenny and welcome to the Partner Comunity.

Promotions can be tricky and unfortunately most of them stack up as Myat mentioned above.

Razing a little standard rates before offering a promotion helps...

I have joined Genius and sometimes I make offers for a certain period of time...

BDC  suggest us many offers...its up to us to find what suits us better...

Please do not forget to edit your profile...add your property link...

Hi Jenny and Doug

Just wondering where you are based..

But Maria just asked for a property link. That would help.

I Aalje thank you for your reply.  I am in Palmerston North.   I am getting so frustrated with this site, it is so complicated. I have no idea how to link my property.    Is there anywhere I can go to get help for this.   Thank you so much

Yes.

This is for the peak season in NZ

So if people book early they get discount .

Some bookers also using their genius status to get extra discount.

Plus country rates, flexible rates, weekly rate ..

So people got extreme cheap stays since most stacked !

My analytics show that not enough people look on my page... I thought that was promised as a " reward" by the B . platform to increase the visibility ..... (?)

Guessing   if people see a high price  tgey don't even look further, they move on.

I dont have hotel ...or motel or multi unit apartment .

So my next aim is cheap prices  but no extras . Self contained with offer of farm milk, ( when available ) yoghurt - muesli .

Even two day stayers dont have huge breakfast. They are here to explore and hike. Up early  , coffee and gone.

I imagine this is different everywhere.

But low prices will be my new strategy. I have two months left....

We will see ;)

Greetings

Aaltje B

Hi all, thank you all so much for taking the time to help      I found a phone number and it turned out I was talking to someone the States who was very helpful helpful.     Whow it certainly is a very complicated website  for beginners.   I will be using this page more often as its nice to chat with other hosts.  I have stopped the early bird discount as I feel 15% on top of other discounts is a but excessive and will put my pricing up a little.  Jenny

Good news!!!

Nice to hear you found someone to help you out.

The early bird discount might be helpful if you dont have reservations but it is a big discount together with the Genius one....Have in mind that you can quit the Genius Programme for a maximum of 30 days without any penalties.

Please share some photos of your beautiful country....

I see...Ella...

So if a guest is a Genius he gets 10% for that and an extra 20% for Early Deal...total 30%???

Hope it works for you....have you ever tried to boost your visibility by rasing BDC commission???

Hello with the help of you all I think I understand how to navigate this complicated website.  I have cancelled the early bird as we are not a tourist town but kept the Genuis, 2020 plan 10 discount, and they have added a permanent standard plan 10%.   Personally I think it is extremely unfair to expect the hosts to bear these discounts, we work very hard but I feel much more confident now in how B.C operates.  I will raise my nightly rate just to help a little.

Yes New Zealand is so beautiful we are very lucky.  Also not affected by Covid at all and we all hope it stays that way.  Anyway must of and "do a clean"  Have a good day everyone I have so appreciated all your help.   Jenny

Hi Jenny and Doug Elliott,

Great question about your rate strategy! Ideally we like to look at rates in the below 3 stages. Think of it as a pyramid with Foundation at the bottom, followed by Proactive then Reactive.

  • Foundation: This refers to your Rate Plans you set initially to appeal to the widest possible range of travellers. These rates are available to anyone booking. Having a flexible option, non-refundable option and perhaps an early booker option can allow you to appeal to all booker types.
  • Proactive: Solutions to support your long-term revenue strategy, like appealing to specific markets and improving your visibility throughout the year. These will include our Genius program and targeted rates such as Mobile/Country Rates.
  • Reactive: Solutions to help you boost bookings at a specific time, such as to replace multiple last-minute cancellations. These can be very short term basic deals or flash sales to cover last minute periods.

You have full control over which solutions and Rate Plans you wish to use to help fulfil your pricing strategy. We aim to support your choice, making sure travellers always receive a great price and have a great booking experience. Start with a foundational rate plan and then explore a range of proactive and reactive portfolio solutions.

BrookAve also shared a great chart you can follow if you are unsure about which products stack.

Kind regards,

Shirley E.
