Reservations low after automating payments

Hi Everyone,

I have noticed that my bookings have really diminished after I implemented payment upon reservation and removed the ability for cash payments while check-in. Do you think this is normal? AM I doing something wrong here?

Best Regards,

Kris

Booking is by far the worst channel that we work with, both in terms of its customers and also of the quality (or lack thereof) of the customers that you cater for. Furthermore, it is fully unlawful and completely unacceptable to us that you do not allow for payment options by Stripe and that you keep our cash until up to a week after the checkout, when the customer may have paid for it months in advance. You cannot retain our cash, that is fully unacceptable. You are mere intermediaries, it is our property, our clients and our money, period. Also, the fact that you do not allow for an easy integration with other channels via iCal is your responsibility, and yours alone. Therefore, we refuse any responsibility for double bookings until you change that. Please change your procedures asap.

Yes, Manuel - you definitely have a point there - it is not in our best interest for Booking to keep our money with them for as long as possible. It is in theirs. It is not illegal however - it is just the business model they have. The longer they keep hold of the money - the bigger volume of cash they have, which is paramount for a healthy company.

Dear Studio, naturally that I understand that it is in their best interest to keep ours and our clients hard-earned cash for as long as possible. That is simply unjust, unethical and incorrect. It may even be legal, yet as Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther King noted very well, any unjust law should be combated. A healthy company is a company with happy customers. Booking is always trying to make happy guests and makes very unhappy property owners, just because they can. This business model is bound to fail, just waiting for the when...

Payment schedule is too long and there is extra charges (Bank Charges). I find that this are unacceptable.

Of course you do, as am pretty sure most owners do, yet the inertia is strong...

Hi Studio Boker.  Although bookings may reduce they are more likely to be valid guests.  When I was doing cash payments guests would simply not show up and you have no way of getting the money for your inconvenience.  I don't do payment upon reservation but let booking.com do all the processing.

HI Sharon,

Yes, that is one of the main reasons we decided to switch to a pay-right-after-you-book model.

But I cannot help but notice that even the number of guests showing up overall has decreased. Not sure - maybe it is a Booking algorithm thing. I know nothing of how that works unfortunately.

Hi it might be the algorithm, probably your property might not appear in the search or not in the front list of the search results.

Yes I also use payment via BdC. It's good but payment from BdC is almost 1 month with bank charges.

Hi! Nick  and welcome to the Partner Community.

You can select to be paid 4 times a month...

Wish you well.

Hi Manuel.  This is the Partner Forum and not booking.com staff.

I agree with Sharon.

Payments by booking is the best solution....and strict policies...

You might have less bookings but you get less cancellations and no-shows.

Best wishes
