Double bookings

Hello dear friends!!!

I just noticed that under my calendar is a notice stating:

"When you get a new reservation, make sure you close the dates manually on other platforms and vice versa. This will prevent double-bookings, because syncing doesn't occur in real time."

I thought to share it with you in case somebody like me have not seen it....

Very thoughtful of BDC to remind us....

Wishing everybody a great night...

I've been complaining to BDC for months about the calendar sync not working - I started another post in these forums this evening about it after getting yet another double booking .....

Very sorry to hear about your problems!!!

Try to check your calendar manually until it is synced...

Wish you good luck!!!

Dude,

Booking.com has no excuse for not providing real time calendar synchronization. AirBnB has had it for years.

The partner program is amateurish.

Regards,

Roderick.

And just checked my calendars and it doesn't say that .... on mine, it says " Connect your Booking.com calendar with other sites (e.g. Airbnb, HomeAway, etc.) and get up-to-date availability across channels. "

So maybe you have to synchronize your calendar!!!

I have synchronized my calendar and have no problems so far but  to be sure I always double check after each reservation...

Try to synchronize your calendar and hopefully you will not have double bookings.

Wish you all the best.

Synchronization should be real time and done by the system itself.

I do synchronise calendars - but BDC systems keep failing and losing the connection to other calendars - the picture below is what happens with the BDC calendar systems - everything was "Okay" and then suddenly it's not - and we can't keep manually checking every listing several times a day to see if the calendars are all working or not ......

Booking.com keeps losing it's calendar connections - this is a fault with Booking.com

And I have no idea where "Unknown" came from ..... it's not something I've put in ....

Me too!

Had problems all along synchronising with Home Away - still says continue set up but then it reads that it synchronised today.?!  I wrote to bdc who admitted there was a blip in the system weeks ago.

Had a very good booking request for September from Trip Advisor but had to tell them I was already booked through bdc.  Seems none of my September bookings had synchonised with the other sites. I use the same ones as Isle of Wight.

We are not supposed to have to manually synchonise - that is the whole point!  If two bookings come in electronically, we may not be aware of the fact.  This is why it offers instant book

It is not thoughtful. It is an admission of failure.

Unfortunately sync is not working automatically.  Its partially working...if guests happen to simultaneously make reservations from different channels we have problems.

I guess thats why many partners use Channel Managers...its probably the only solution to double bookings.  You pay a little more but you avoid double bookings...

Wish everybody a wonderful evening....

The BDC calendar sync *IS* automatic, but only when it works .... it keeps breaking. The whole point of calendar sync is to be automatic .... if it was meant to be manual, it would be very different. AirBnB, TripAdvisor and others can make their calendar syncs work, but BDC can't ....

I dont want to pay more.  With commissions, tax and social charges I earn about 50% of the rental plus I have to do all the cleaning and laundry myself.

Instant book = synchronisation of bookings. Voila!

If you have several listings then Channel Manager is the right solution. iCal synchronization always takes some time, it's not updated instantly and meanwhile you can get overbooked.

You are missing a very important point ..... the BDC calendar sync is broken .... you set everything up correctly, and then one day, for no reason, the settings are lost and it does not export anything at all .... and TripAdvisor can only get data from BDC at the time a guest wants to book (as if BDC block TripAdvisor from collecting iCal data) ..... so this is the important point ..... it's broken ..... look at my picture above .... why has it gone from "Okay" (where it is both importing and exporting) to Import Only ..... and where has "Unknown" come from? The BDC calendar sync does this itself. It is not what we set. It is a fault with BDC calendar sync but BDC don't want to acknowledge it.

I am not missing a point. I was just generally speaking if someone has several listings they should consider getting a Chanel Manager. From my point of view iCal is OK for hosts that rent 1 apartment. And what I am saying is, that iCal connections / updates takes some time to sync. Even when it is working properly you cen get overbooked because of this delay.  If you use iCal sync, you should primarily update manually the availabilty.. iCal sync should be considered as a "last resort" in case you don't have an internet access or for any other reason that you were not able to access calendars.

Going to remove myself from airbnb instant book.  That will help.

It does give you more control.. The down side is if there is a lot of competition in your area, your property ranking will drop.. Instant book does bring more bookings,...

Masses of competition in my area (Nice) and  Airbnb instant book hasn't worked for me at all, probably because they wont place you correctly on the map.  I am in a private quiet road which is a huge advantage so close to the beach but I am shown two roads along despite my protests.  Defeats the whole object.  They say its for my privancy but in fact is losing me bookings.  Its only bdc which has come up with bookings this summer.

Airbnb works in the UK though but I dont use instant book there. Not in a competitive area.

Just shows you have to go with everyone to find out what works for you.

Dear Philip, sorry to hear about your struggles....Double bookings is a very frustrating situation...

Request from one of your guests to cancel their reservation through booking...and try to call your local BDC office to explain to them the situation.

Wish you all the best.

Isle of Wight …

I've just had yet another double booking. Property already booked via AirBnB. BDC calendar sync showing AirBnB as "Okay", yet BDC took a booking that overlapped this booking with 3 empty nights.

Of course, that means I need to move the guest into another property, which luckily, I can do, but my 3 empty nights are now blocked by the double booking. It was actually 4 empty nights, but the last of those was blocked by another double booking caused again by BDC calendar sync not working.

So now I am losing money - lots of money - due to BDC calendar sync not working.

OMG!!! What a mess!!! You do have big problems.

Yesterday a friend of mine was telling me that she had same problems with you and she was very disappointed.

Once she noticed that double booking was made on the same second...she didn't even have a chance to open her calendar in pulse and try manually to avoid it.

Unfortunately, she had to move guests to another property.

Hopefully we will hear some good news from BDC about this problem.

Isle of Wight …

Sadly, I am not the only owner/manager who has this problem with BDC calendar sync. There are many other problems with BDC, so I only list 3 properties on BDC - I have many more that I could add, but there are already too many problems with BDC and I can get bookings on AirBnB easily enough.

BDC support have recently ignored this issue. We, the owners, need to keep pressuring BDC support to fix their systems ....

Yes, of course. You are right.

The doublebooking is a topic that probably will be discussed in click 2019.

Hopefully BDC can take measures...
