I am having the same problems as well - when calculating the expense and the problems and complaints that guests come up it is not worth the trouble. Unfortunately like you i have bookings for 2020 already - but i have closed off after the last booking. The latest ridiculous complaint i got was from a guest saying his wife got bit by a mosquito while in the garden near the pool. I cannot take this anymore.
We hosts are faced with a situation where guests can cancel and we cannot - there should be a two way policy where say if a guest can cancel with full refund within the last 14 days the host can cancel without obligation within the last 28 days - and in very urgent situations can cancel with paying a % as refund.
Last Christmas i had a booking for 10 days that had been there for nearly a year - a member of my family was coming to Malta and i could not let them use my villa - they had to book elsewhere - not refundable - and at the very last few weeks my guest decided to cancel - so i ended up loosing the revenue plus my family paying money to stay somewhere else.
This is totally against hosts and needs to be addressed by BDC - it is well known that some guests book the same dates at say three or four different accommodations and than at the very last time within their limits choose one and cancel the rest. This is most unfair.

So far overall i had great guests and was a pleasure hosting them. I only had 2 very bad ones - 1st family even did 2K worth of damage - the 2nd was one of those who was all smiles and everything ok but left a very bad review and the 3rd one complained and because she had a very slight point i asked that she be refunded. So overall yes i agree with you
