House rules can help you feel more comfortable that your guests will take care of your property during their stay. You can set your house rules in the extranet, and guests must read and agree to them in order to complete their booking.

What’s in this article:

Standard house rules

Your house rules set expectations for guests and help them to decide whether your property is a good fit before they book.

You can specify the following standard house rules:

  • Pets
  • Parties or events
  • Smoking
  • Quiet hours
  • Curfew
  • Check-in and checkout times
  • Children
  • Maximum number of guests

In addition, you can specify in the extranet any policies regarding damage deposit, group reservations and guest information.

Setting house rules in the extranet

Depending on your property type, we have enabled certain options for you on the extranet. You may be able to set house rules for your property in the extranet following these steps:

  1. Log in to the extranet
  2. Click on Property, then click on Policies
  3. Under House rules, click Edit
  4. Specify which house rules your property accommodates
  5. Click Save

If you have more than one property, you may be able to set up the same house rules for all of them. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to the extranet
  2. Specify whether your property accommodates smoking, parties or events, quiet hours and pets
  3. Select the properties you would like the policy to apply by checking the box
  4. Click Check and confirm
  5. Click Apply change

If above options are not enabled for you, you can still specify your property policies following these steps:

  1. Log in to the extranet
  2. Click on Property, then click on Policies
  3. Under each option: Internet, parking and pets, Children policies, Extra bed & cot options, Guest information, click Edit
  4. Add all options which your property accommodates
  5. Click Save

It may be beneficial for you to consider setting up a damage policy. Setting up a damage policy secures you in case a guest causes damage to your property or items during their stay.

Additional rules to cover with your guests

Whether you are meeting your guests in person or providing a welcome pack, here are additional house rules you can mention to your guests:

Neighbours

If your apartment is in a quiet building or neighbourhood and you have set ‘quiet hours’ in the extranet, you should remind your guests to keep the noise down. You can also mention that any fines resulting from noise complaints will be passed on to them.

Extra visitors

In order to avoid any unpleasant situations, let your guests know if you don’t want any extra visitors.

Parking

If you don’t offer any parking, you can let guests know about other parking options close to the property and any costs involved.

Safety and security

It’s important to remind your guests to lock the doors and close the windows when they leave the property. If your property has an alarm system, provide clear instructions for your guests on how to turn it on and off. If you’re hosting guests in your home, make sure you have put away any valuable items to be safe.

Food and waste

Make sure guests know about any recycling procedures and where to dispose of their rubbish. You should provide your guests with instructions on how to use any kitchen appliances. If you’re only renting out a room in your home, clearly label your guests’ space in the fridge.

Shared areas and amenities

If your property has a shared garden, terrace, swimming pool or other common area for guests, make sure they’re aware of any rules about having drinks, barbecues or parties.

Emergency services

Provide your guests with contact information for the police, fire and ambulance services. You should also provide  your guests with details for an alternative contact person in case you’re unavailable to answer any urgent questions during their stay.
