Booking.com does not mix discount periods.

Didem - Community Manager

Hi Didem,

I have just read your introduction HERE

Here's a suggestion to get your teeth into, I'm sure it will mean major IT department input but will surely be extremely beneficial to both BDC and us.

I have recently had it confirmed by the team at BDC that promotional periods cannot be mixed on the front end of their system.

e.g. If I have a discount running from 20th Dec 21 to 31st Dec 21.

Plus, if I have a different discount (and possibly discounted from a different rate as well) starting 01st Jan 22 to 31st Jan 22...

Then a potential guest wants to book an overlapping stay e.g. 25 Dec to 08 Jan 22

They do not see either of the discounts and are expected to pay the full, non discounted, rate for the entire booking.

EVERY other OTA allows the discounts to be mixed, regardless of dates, percentages and original rate.

IMO this is a massive mistake by BDC, both we and they are losing out on showing our best promotional rates to the potential guest.

Can we please have this corrected to the market normal standard.

Hmm that's interesting and shouldn't be the case

That's definitely a bug.

Hello,

we have experienced the same and our area manager confirmed that this is the case, from covid and afterwards (never really understand why)..

We had to put another basic deal promotion, or even change the whole pricelist in order to get the rate we wanted.

Hopefully, they will change it soon..

Thanks for bringing it up

Remember also that this effects a partners "price quality score".

So every time the BDC bots find a lower price, by their own construction, we get slapped for it!

If you were wanting to join the Preferred Partner Programme. for example, you would not be able to qualify.

BDC really have not thought this one through at all, what an amateur blunder of epic proportions.

For an internet savvy booker this is no problem, they will simply find our proper, current rate with Expedia or whoever and simply ignore BDC. Is BDC really happy to gift huge chunks of business to their competitors?

Do their affiliates know?

Do the shareholders know?

 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Does BDC know!?

What's that I hear? BDC market share shrinking? I wonder why...

Didem - Community Manager

Hi,

Is there any news on this yet, a month down the line.

With us approaching our next main change-of-offer period it would be nice to know that BDC have started representing us correctly.

Hi Didem - Community Manager

Over two months have passed and absolutely no feedback on this very large issue.

Is anything happening or is BDC ignoring this like they do everything else..... grrrrrrrrr.

Dear Fluff, thanks for tagging me here and once again I'm very sorry for just being able to reply to you again on this topic. I'd checked this one for you, as well, and Booking.com decided to remove this mixing option for everybody related to technical reasons. Our support teams still help our partners to adjust their pricing strategy by setting the right foundations - it might be worth to give them a call for advice (and you might have already done so or you might know a lot about the pricing strategy settings yourself ofcourse). Like I said earlier today, I wish that I could be more helpful in bringing this option back that is obviously important to you.
