I am also getting these 'fake bookings' the so called guest is nearly always from Ukrane, Russia or Hungary. They range from a few months ahead to last minute ( which I can't accept in my situation) they all result in me being unable to cancel, or if I do manage to cancel it's a long drawn out process that takes you closer to the window where you are no longer eligible to cancel so you end up being charged the commission by Booking.com I have done some research and at the moment there is no protection for us. No way to bring booking.com in line or get them investigated. My suggestion is as a collective vote with your feet. I have two genuine bookings through them coming up ( guest has already paid) once these have been. I am cancelling my connection with thid channel and sticking to Airbnb, Tripadviser and owner's direct.
I unfortunately cannot accept cash at the property as most of the time I am not in the same country. ( ie I live and work away from home) The guests let them self in by key that is kept in a key safe. I pay a cleaner to come and do the cleaning and change the bedding etc. Although this is not ideal it is the only way I can operate at the moment. We have managed this way for 10 years so far. but not with Booking.com
I can accept payment with paypal if the guest lets me know their email address. I can then invoice them. I am also with homeaway, airbnb and tripadvisor. they all allow guests to pay via Paypal but booking.com mainly cater for hotels and guest houses. I got signed up with booking.com when i registered with rentals united. I have had 6 guests with booking.com in the last year and they have been able to pay me via booking.com. it only went wrong when someone used the virtual credit card option. I do not have a POS terminal nor the facility to get one. Thanks for your input.
Thanks for your suggestions.
I have activated payments by booking.com but this then means the guests pay by 'virtual credit card' I have no facility to collect payment from this.
I have also never received any bank transfers as the system you described in your post should work.
I do not have a POS Terminal as I am not a business I had to look up what you meant by POS terminal on google :)
I just rent out my studio property to help with my pension and village taxes for my home. I already use other agencies to take bookings and I was with Rentals united. when they then changed me to booking.com and I am struggling with them ever since.
I am also in a similar situation. All three of my guests via booking.com have paid on line and so they are blissfully unaware that anything is wrong.
I am just a holiday property owner ( small studio let) I have sent numerous emails to booking.com all have been ignored. I am now out of pocket to the sum of €740 as although the guests have paid via the site I have not received any money. One has also paid via Virtual credit card, which I have no way of accessing.
I have much better relationship with Airbnb and Owners Direct I just went with booking.com to broaden my footprint and hopefully get more than 6 guests a year. But I cannot afford to keep paying commission to booking.com for bookings I have not been paid for. Any help out there would be appreciated.
All three of my guests via booking.com have paid on line and as I am not a hotel I opted to have the guests pay via Paypal ( as well as the deposit) but there is no option to do this as far as I can see. I have sent numerous emails to booking.com all have been ignored. I am now out of pocket to the sum of €740 as although the guests have paid via the site I have not received any money. One has also paid via Virtual credit card, which I have no way of accessing. Any Ideas ?
