Thanks for that. I would like to take payment at time of booking but I do feel it puts a lot of people off. I will look at other posts as you suggested and have a good think!!
I would want to because sometimes the guest will 'reply' to my 'reply' with a 'thank you' or something that doesn't need an answer back. They may also ask two questions separately and I can reply to both on one message but the system thinks there is till a message outstanding and the "no reply needed" button is not available in this case. Booking.com take ages to clear messages, even ones where the arrival date is long past and it clogs the system and has me looking for messages that are not relevant.
