Our research reveals what traveling is really like for members of the LGBTQ+ community

For the LGBTQ+ community, travel in principle and travel in practice are sometimes two different things, as our most extensive LGBTQ+ research to date shows. 

Barriers to inclusive travel still remain, with over half (60%) of LGBTQ+ travelers saying that being part of the community impacts the decisions they make when planning a trip. Here’s what else they had to say:

  • We surveyed 5,514 LGBTQ+ travelers from 25 countries about their past experiences, current realities, and hopes for a more inclusive travel future
  • 82% of travelers have had less than welcoming or uncomfortable experiences, with 64% saying they have to consider their safety and wellbeing when traveling
  • More than half (55%) of LGBTQ+ travelers have faced discrimination, and 6 out of 10 say their safety and wellbeing is a key consideration when choosing a destination
