gst

Are other partners having issues with the GST with Booking.  I have informed  Booking till I am blue in the face that I am not paying the GST as I am exempt.  Anyone earning less than 30000 a year does not have to pay GST if you are not registered.  I do not have a GST number and Booking wants me to debit the client with GST and then submit it to them.  I cannot do this as it would be illegal and they will not listen.

Hi Cathy, I agree with you, we are a homestay and do not collect GST but our booking.com guests get charged it. Yes it seems wrong. Did you get any answers?

NO they never debited the client when they took the reservation and they want me to pay for the gst that was never collected by them and I don't do gst as I am not registered.  I have told them that I could not change anything on my VAT either in policy or finance.  THey finally put the gst on the reservation as I finally called them again.  I don't know if this is going to help but I hope it does.  They will not help the host, you call the finance department which I did today, and they don't know anything about the gst or taxes as they are not trained..

Really Booking needs to train the staff they have so that they know what they are doinng.  It is a uphill battle

Yes but booking didn’t charge them. On the reservation they did not charge the client any tax then they want me to pay them the tax which was never received by me. Airbnb I don’t have to worry about the tax as they do it. Booking I can’t do gst charge because I am not registered to take GST and if I did I would be doing it illegally. Booking should be taking it. They use to before covid I never as bothered to pay them the taxes. With the virtual cards they don’t seem to be charging them either. The problem is they won’t call you from finance and talk to you. I am very frustrated

Cathy,

I'm currently going through the same! Also they call it VAT as well as gst  so I thought I was getting charged both. They don't seem to be set up to cater for one room Homestays like us who certainly don't make the $30,000 per year to register for gst .

I do not wish to take it off guest then give back or whatever, far too difficult.

Airbnb don't do anything like that. What you see is what you get.

Question.

My gst on their statement reads 2 lots for one month eg

    GST $5.42

    GST $29.55

Total $34.97

Is yours like that too? What's with the 2 lots?

I don't want to try and contact them, it's too difficult to reach them and get an answer.

Kind Regards

Lynne Marie

Lynne Marie, no they never charaged the gst at all.  Four months I have been fighting them they just say it is my responsibility to pay the gst.  I am not paying gst if it was not charged to the client.  I am not registered and I don't need to be.  They are telling me to contact my CPA.  I told them I have spoken with my CPA and CRA (GST) department.  It was suggested that I have my CPA send them a letter to tell BOoking that I do not have to collect the gst.  Booking should know the rules before they start sending out invoices to collect taxes.

They don't want anything to do with the taxes, not like Airbnb , VRBO, Expedia.  THese platforms take the gst and the host does not have to worry about it.  I am dealing with LOdgify now as well as I am to the ice point that the service that I have received from booking is the worst service ever.  They do not treat their partners with any respect.

As well I have checked with GST at the CRA and my cpa  as well as other cpas and they say samething it’s not me who should be taking the gst without me having been registered. They keep saying talk to your accountant so in other words they aren’t listening

On the finance gst page you put no to gst but need to add your PAN and aadhaar details. Then every booking they will charge the guest gst along with room charge. You collect the gst from the guest then b.com will invoice you to pay it back to them.

Why didn’t booking tell me. They never said anything. I don’t have the right to charge them though. What do I do now. This has never been done. The so called support never told me how to do this. I have sent them over 10 posts.

We also make nowhere near 30k and any guests that book direct with us do not pay GST. When we do our income tax we show all the invoices for the GST b.com has collected as well as the commission invoices.

Go to extranet, click on More, click on Finance, find Goods and service tax. Here you can put NO to GST and then put your PAN and Aadhaar details. Hope it works for you this time.

HI I went in again and on where I put no there is nowhere that I can see the PAn and Aadhaar details.  It doesn't show anything.  Only says do you have a gst number.  nothing else that I can get into.  I sent what I have in finance back to booking will see what happens.  I also asked them about the Pan and Aadhaar.
THank you
