How can I add a pet fee?

How can I show my guests how high the pet free per stay is?

Dear Ophelie Krug,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

The pet information is included in your property policies. You can find instructions on how to update your policies in the following article.

I hope it is clear to you.

Best regards,

Toniya

Toniya, I read the article and followed the instructions. The system only allowed me to set a flag that ‘charges may apply’ without me being able to specify what those charges are. What am I missing?

Dear Michael,

There is a drop down menu where you can find the option "Pets can stay for free". When you choose it, make sure that you click on the blue button "Save".

Kind regards,

Toniya

Hi Toniya, thanks for your reply. I might not have been clear in my question. I did see the drop down with only two options, ‘charges may apply’ or ‘pets stay for free’. What I am looking for is where you can actually state what the charges are.

Hi Michael,

You can specify what the charges are in your property description. For this you need to go to the "Property" tab -> "View your descriptions" and scroll to the button of the page where you can find "Request a change". There you can add the text you want to publish about the charges. Your request will go to our Content team, who will then add this information to your property description.

I hope it is clear to you,

Toniya

Hello,

I have the same question/problem..

Does that mean I have to collect the fee personally? Cant I somehow add it to the total cost when they confirm booking online?

Thanks

Dear Simon Jeffreys,

Thanks for asking!

Yes, this is an extra fee and you have to collect it personally. It cannot be added to the total cost as it is something specific and every property has different policies.

Kind regards,

Toniya

When will you fix this?  I do not want to collect fees outside of the platform.  Other sites allow you to add pet fees.

I too would find it useful to be able to set the fee directly via booking, not only not to have to deal with the fee myself, but also for the guests to know the price with the fee included, since many guest don't read everything that it's written on the property page and it can become awkward for the guest to find out they owe you money for the dog only when they arrive at the location.

All fees should be processed through the booking platform. Why do we have to personally collect fees for pets and not any other fee such as cleaning?

No one has 'kept me posted' in the past year. So, I take care of myself. I raised all my prices on booking.com to reflect the higher fees you charge, the overabundance of discounts and the lack of the option to add pet charge.

Fully agree with the above ^ and would love to see a pet fee added in the additional fees section please 🙏🙏

I will be increasing my general rates by the cost of my pet fee on Booking.com versus other providers until this feature is available to cover the additional costs of hosting pets.

This will make my rates cheaper on other booking sites for guests that don't have a pet 😬

I agree. all other sites have a pet fee and as well they also allow guests to select from how many dogs in the dropdown for guests and the booking fee is only charged for those guests that select dogs. Look at VBRO or airbnb. Both have it.

I also agree that pet fee should be allowed to set and it would be added to reservation price and collected by Booking.

Another option would be very useful to set how many pets per reservation you accept or charge per pet.
Because if you accept pets and there is a dog show in your city you might end up with reservation where guest comes to dog show and they bring like 4-5 dogs...

Any update on being able to setup a pet fee on this platform? As others have said, other provider platforms allow this? I don't really want to increase the nightly charges to compensate as this will put my Booking.com at higher rate than other sites

In over a year, you haven't added a pet fee? What's wrong with booking.. I think these are the things people are ditching booking and going to other sites. I just had a checkout where a dog caused a lot of damage, and yet, there is still no way for me to charge a fee except off-platform. Why?

I agree with all the above comments.Booking.com has an entire list of additional fees that can be added to a reservation, but no option for pet fees. How difficult can it be to add a pet fee to the list? In addition, why have there been no updates to these requests in over a year? Toniya from Booking.com Communications promised to forward the request to the relevant team and department and keep us posted. Where is the followthrough on this promise? Very disappointed with the attention to host concerns on this platform.

Dear @Levi Bennett and @Joseph Dubouzet

Thank you for sharing your feedback. It's very valuable for us to be able to improve our services and your experiences.

I'm also very sorry for your troubles for a long time regarding this topic!

I contacted our internal teams again who work on the pet fee topic. I hope that I receive some information to share with you soon.

Once again, apologies for the inconvenience this topic seems to have caused to you all.

Considering that the same assurances were made over a year ago, your assurance now rings extremely hollow. The pet fee issue is not just a source of aggravation for owners, it results in guests giving us poor reviews because they claim they were unaware of the pet fee when we try to collect it.

We don't need platitudes, we need answers.  If it's too expensive or annoying for BDC to make this change, then just tell us. But it is really annoying having to charge pet fees outside of the platform.  Just so you know, once we start talking outside the platform and taking fees etc, don't you know hosts would be more inclined to take repeat bookings from the guest directly?  Wouldn't that destroy your entire business model.  Fix the problem or tell us why it cannot be fixed.  We are your customers too.

is it just that you cant be bothered to insert pet fees or is there a genuine reason? because it makes no sense to me why it isnt an option
