Setting up deals and promotions through your connectivity solution

Deals and promotions are a great way to attract customers and boost your bookings. When included in your pricing strategy, they give you the flexibility to offer discounts based on your business needs. You can create different types of promotions:

  1. Basic Deal This is the most flexible promotion available and allows you to offer short-term discounts to capture surge in demand or strategic discounts which can run medium or long term.
  2. Last-minute Deal – This promotion gives last-minute bookers an attractive discount. It helps you attract late-booking travelers throughout the season and can give you a quick occupancy boost when you need it. We recommend setting up Last-minute Deals with a booking window of no more than seven days before check-in.
  3. Early Booker Deal – This promotion helps you attract travelers who are booking far in advance It’s a great way to secure bookings well in advance of a busier season.
  4. Country Rates – These are targeted discounts you can offer guests from your markets of choice. They can help you fill your available rooms during low season, since peak travel times differ for each market. Plus, they can help you tap into completely new markets.

Mobile Rates – By activating a Mobile Rate at your property, you can tap into this valuable, expanding traveler segment. All you need to do is offer an exclusive discount of 10% or more for mobile users. Then, a badge will appear next to your property in search results and on your property page. This helps increase your visibility and can improve your conversion rate for mobile bookers.

  • Set up a promotion via your connectivity provider solution with these five steps. Start by choosing one of the promotion types we offer:

    1. Select – Depending on your goal, choose one of the five available promotions listed above.
    2. Discount – Specify the discount percentage you want to offer over a parent rate plan.
    3. Room and rate plan – Selected promotions can be on certain room types and rate plans.
    4. Active dates – You can deactivate promotions for specific dates and weekdays while keeping them available for the rest of the days.
    5. Additional customizations – Modify promotions by setting a minimum length of stay and non-refundable cancellation.

Setting up Early Booker and Last-minute Deals through your connectivity solution

The Early Booker and Last-minute Deals are flexible promotions that help you attract more guests. Both deals allow you to set discounts, guest stay dates, and booking windows based on your particular needs.

  • You can use both deals strategically by setting them up to run for multiple weeks or months at a time. Travelers will be able to see them during that period based on the criteria you set.

Early Booker and Last-minute Deals complement each other. We recommend activating both as part of your marketing strategy. These promotions are designed based on Covid-19 recovery patterns we identified in traveler demand. You can easily adapt them to fit your situation and needs.

Once you’re ready, you can set up Early Booker and Last-minute Deals on your connectivity provider, including property management systems, channel managers, or revenue management systems, as long as they’ve integrated Promotions API. To learn more about setting up deals and promotions, see this article.

  • An Early Booker Deal helps you boost occupancy early on in the season. It works by attracting guests who reserve their trips well in advance.

To get the most out of an Early Booker Deal, we recommend setting up this promotion for at least 30 days before check-in.

Below is the step-by-step guide to setting up an Early Booker Deal on your connectivity provider solution:

    1. Discount – Define any discount percentage you want to offer over a parent rate plan.
    2. Room and rate plan – Select the room types and rate plans to apply the promotion to. The price and policies of the parent rate plan will remain unchanged, but the dates, restrictions, and channels can be overridden by the promotion.
    3. Active dates – Select the minimum number of dates before the stay date that the Early Booker Deal will be active, and the dates the rooms can be booked. We recommend setting up this promotion for at least 30 days before check-in.

Additional customizations – Modify promotions by setting a minimum length of stay and non-refundable cancellation.

  • A Last-minute Deal helps you boost occupancy throughout the season by attracting guests who want to travel on short notice.

To take full advantage of the Last-minute Deal, we recommend setting up this promotion for a maximum of seven days before check-in.

Below is the step-by-step guide to setting up a Last-minute Deal on your connectivity provider solution:

    1. Discount – Define any discount percentage you want to offer over a parent rate plan.
    2. Room and rate plan – Select the room types and rate plans the promotion will be applied to. The price and policies of the parent rate plan will remain unchanged, but the dates, restrictions, and channels can be overridden by the promotion.
    3. Active dates – Select the maximum number of dates before the stay date that the Last-minute Deal will be active, and the dates the rooms can be booked. We recommend setting up this promotion for at most seven days before check-in.
    4. Additional customizations – Modify promotions by setting a minimum length of stay and non-refundable cancellation.

Setting up a Basic Deal through your connectivity solution

A Basic Deal is a fully flexible promotion, so you can adapt it to your pricing strategy and business needs. That means you can choose the discount amount, the stay dates when the deal applies, and the minimum length of stay.

  • A Basic Deal can help you take advantage of opportunities in your market and capture traveler demand. You can use a Basic Deal to adjust your prices in response to specific situations or for particular time periods. For example, when a popular event is taking place in your area.

You can also use a Basic Deal as part of your wider pricing strategy to offer discounts for a particular time period. You can set this based on the demand you're expecting to see. A Basic Deal can also help generate extra bookings during times when you know your occupancy rate will be lower than usual. Once the deal is live, you can manage it anytime if things change.

  • You can set up a Basic Deal at any time, and for multiple deals ahead of time. Each deal will only become visible to potential guests during the time period you select.

Below is a step-by-step guide for setting up a Basic Deal on your connectivity provider solution:

    1. Discount – Define a discount percentage you want to offer over a parent rate plan.
    2. Room and rate plan – Select the room types and rate plans the promotion will be applied to. The price and policies of the parent rate plan will remain unchanged, but the dates, restrictions, and channels can be overridden by the promotion.
    3. Active dates – Select when the Basic Deal will be active and the dates the rooms can be booked.
    4. Additional customizations – Modify promotions by setting a minimum length of stay and non-refundable cancellation.

To learn more about setting up deals and promotions, see this article.

Remember, these are the general steps across most connectivity providers, but certain steps might be handled differently. You can check with your connectivity provider for detailed info and ask them to add or change steps to help you handle Basic Deals more effectively.

  • We display your Basic Deal on our platform by striking through the original price of a potential guest’s stay and displaying the discounted price next to it. Our research shows that the visual impact of striking through prices improves conversion rates and generates more bookings.

Setting up Country Rates through your connectivity solution

Attract travelers from countries and regions you want to target by offering Country Rates. Use Country Rates as part of your pricing strategy to attract domestic and international travelers.

  • Country Rates can help you unlock domestic and international demand by offering great prices to travelers in the countries you specifically want to target. Boost bookings by customizing the discounts you offer to specific markets – the country where your property is located, other individual countries, entire regions, or the whole world.

Adding Country Rates is a proactive step that you can take as part of your pricing strategy to increase your property’s occupancy. You’ll strengthen your pricing position by offering a discount only to potential guests in the countries you need a boost in. If things change, you can manage your Country Rates anytime.

You can choose to offer a discount of 5% or more. We’ll only display this amount to people using our platform in the countries or regions you want to target. Country Rates are active throughout the year, but you can block up to 30 dates when they don’t apply.

Country Rates apply to all your rooms and rate plans. The Country Rate discount is added on top of any Genius discounts you offer and any promotions you’ve set up, with the exception of Mobile Rates.

To learn more about Country Rates, see this solutions page.

Depending on the country your property is based in, this feature may not be available due to legal or commercial restrictions. We’re working on rolling out Country Rates to all countries as soon as possible.

  • Below are the steps for setting up a Country Rate via your connectivity provider solution.

    1. Audience – Country Rates aren’t public deals and can be made accessible only to guest bookings from a selected country or region. Activate Country Rates for countries at different times of the year based on their holiday seasons.
    2. Discount – Define a discount percentage to offer over a parent rate plan. Note: The minimum discount to be offered as part of this rate is 5%.
    3. Room and rate plan – Select the room types and rate plans the promotion will be applied to. The price and policies of the parent rate plan will remain unchanged, but the dates, restrictions, and channels can be overridden by the promotion.
    4. Active dates – Select when the promotion will be active and the dates the rooms can be booked. You can also choose to deactivate the promotion for specific dates and days of the week for up to 30 days a year.
    5. Additional customizations – Modify promotions by setting a minimum length of stay and non-refundable cancellation.

Remember, these are the general steps across most connectivity providers, but certain steps might be handled differently. You can check with your connectivity provider for detailed information and ask them to add or change steps to help you handle Country Rates more effectively.

Setting up Mobile Rates through your connectivity solution

Increase bookings from mobile devices by up to 22% by offering special Mobile Rates. Mobile Rates can help you target certain age groups that are more likely to book using mobile devices.

  • A Mobile Rate is a special discount that’s only visible when someone uses our app or accesses our website from a mobile browser. You can use Mobile Rates to increase bookings from mobile devices by up to 22%.

The majority of reservations on our platform are made on mobile devices, so offering a Mobile Rate helps you tap into this large group of potential guests.

When you offer a Mobile Rate, a special badge appears next to your property in the search results, on your property page, and during the booking process. We’ve found that this helps improve your conversion with mobile device users. Mobile Rates are active throughout the year, but you can choose up to 30 blackout dates when they don’t apply.

Mobile Rates apply to all your rooms and rate plans. The Mobile Rate discount is added on top of any Genius discounts and promotions you’ve set up, with the exception of Country Rates.

To learn more about Mobile Rates, see this solutions page.

  • You can offer any discount amount of at least 10%, but for the best results we recommend a 15% discount. We’ll only offer this discount on our app and our website in mobile browsers.

By activating Mobile Rates on both our app and mobile website, you can reach 30% more potential guests compared to the app alone. Targeting mobile users is more important than ever, since increasing numbers of travelers use mobile devices both when thinking ahead to future trips and booking spontaneously.

  • You can set up a Mobile Rate via your connectivity provider solution with these five factors in mind:

    1. Audience – Mobile Rates aren’t public deals and can only be made accessible to guests booking from either Android or iOS devices. This could be via either the Booking.com app or the Booking.com site on a mobile browser.
    2. Discount – Define a discount percentage to offer over a parent rate plan. Note: The minimum discount to be offered as part of this rate is 10%.
You can also choose to deactivate the promotion for up to 30 days a year, which can be on specific dates and days of the week.
    5. Additional customizations – Modify promotions by setting a minimum length of stay and non-refundable cancellation.

Combining discounts from different rate plans and promotions

To help you build a successful pricing strategy and maximize your occupancy, we offer a series of pricing products. These are:

  • Foundation products – your rate plans and rate plan customizations
  • Premium products – the Genius Program, Preferred Partner Program, and targeted rates (Country and Mobile Rates)
  • Reactive products – portfolio deals (Basic Deals, Early Booker Deals, and Last-minute Deals)

Sometimes, pricing product discounts combine, meaning a customer can get both discounts. For more info on our pricing products and when to use them, see our Pricing Solutions Portfolio.

  • We combine discounts to fulfill our commitments to different audiences so we can guarantee the best possible price and the most bookings for partners like you. Because these audiences bring value to your business in different ways—for example, Genius customers are less likely to cancel—customers who trigger combined discounts can represent extra high value. Combined discounts can also deliver great results for conversion and occupancy.

There are two rules for combining promotions:

    1. Targeted rates can’t be combined with each other, but can be combined with portfolio deals. For example, Mobile Rates can’t be combined with Country Rates, but they can be combined with a Basic, Early Booker, or Last-minute Deals.
    2. Portfolio deals can’t be combined with each other, but can be combined with targeted rates. For example, Basic Deals can’t be combined with Early Booker or Last-minute Deals, but can be combined with any Country or Mobile Rates.

When it comes to combining pricing products, the following rules apply:

    • Foundational prices can be combined with Genius products and targeted rates, as well as portfolio deals.
    • Within Genius, you may combine Genius sub-products. As a pricing product in itself, Genius combines with other pricing products in the same way, no matter what Genius discount you’ve set up. Check out this Solutions page for more info on the Genius program and sub-products.
    • The Preferred Program is a pricing product, but it doesn’t trigger customer-facing promotions or discounts. That’s why it doesn’t combine with other pricing products to affect the final price shown to the customer. The Preferred commission is calculated based on the final price shown to the customer, which may be lower if they’re eligible for a discount.
  • Combined discounts aren’t added up to create one larger discount, but instead applied in sequence. For example, take a base rate of $100:

    • First, a Genius discount of 10% is applied, which gives us a discounted price of $90 ($100 - 10% x $100)
    • A Country Rate of 10% is applied to the new rate of $90, making the final price $81 ($90 - 10% x $90)
    • $81 is the final price shown to the customer and the amount commission is calculated from
