Non-discrimination guidelines when accepting or declining a booking request

We believe in facilitating travel experiences where everyone feels welcome and respected, whoever they are, and wherever they’re from. As our partner, we expect you to comply with applicable laws and not engage in or allow discrimination. Where local laws offer less protection against discrimination than international human rights standards, we expect you to meet those higher international standards.

Non-discrimination guidelines

You shouldn’t decline a booking or impose any different terms or conditions based on a guest’s:

  • Race, skin color, ethnicity, nationality, country of origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, or marital or familial status
  • Actual or perceived disability – for example, by charging more fees for a guest with disabilities, including pet fees when the guest has a service animal
  • Actual or perceived age group – for example, by charging additional fees for guests of a certain age group 

However, you may set minimum age limits for guests checking in or staying at a property as long as those limits are:

  • Universally applied to all guests 
  • Specified on our platform’s property policies
  • Allowed under applicable law

You may provide factually accurate information in clear, non-derogatory terms about your property’s features or lack of them, such as:

  • Anything that could make your property unsafe for guests of a certain age or families with children
  • To allow for guests with disabilities to assess for themselves whether a property is appropriate for their individual needs
  • Any restrictions on your ability to host specific guests due to local laws

Non-discrimination guidelines violation

While you may have lawful and legitimate reasons for turning down a potential guest, keep in mind that it might make them feel unwelcome or excluded. You should do your best to welcome guests of all backgrounds. 

If you reject guests without complying with the guidelines we’ve established, we may suspend you from our platform following our Values and Guidelines and our Partner Terms
