The receipt from the card machine does not specify VAT /IVA/TVA/MWS/MVA.
A guest who is travelling on business or on holiday has a clear right to ask for a specified receipt as evidence of the purpose of the transaction.
The company they own or work for can then apply to the State Department of Finance for a refund of the VAT, or they can leave the paperwork to companies who are specialists in that field of work(and deduct a fee).
VAT in Scandinavia ranges from 12% to 25%(accomodation---- meals, hire cars, flights etc ) and that can be well worth the effort with the paperwork.
We cooperate with the neighbouring hotel because they have an excellent buffet breakfast.
We purchase vouchers for breakfasts, our guests pay over the terminal on arrival, and our guests deliver the vouchers in the hotel breakfast restaurant.
We make no profit /no loss on these vouchers and look upon it as a good service.
We have a policy of a minimum stay of two days in the High Season as this filters away almost all the late night arrivals-very early morning departures. Our bedrooms have soundproofed fire doors (32dB) which are demanded by national fire authorities here in Norway, so little to no noise will seep out into the corridor. We inform evening arrivals that the guest kitchen must be quiet as of 22:00 and that they may sit out in the garden and use a barbecue to whatever hour they wish to do so. Sunset in June is 23:30 so a few guests will still be chatting over a glass of wine or a cup of tea until midnight, which is a nice way to end the day.
The loud mouthed and quarrelsome guest is something we see very seldom, and only twice have I had to ask a guest to make one of two choices 1) quiet down and do not waken up anyone 2) pack your luggage and sleep in your car
Different fiscal systems have different solutions.
We can go online to THE CLEARINGHOUSE at any time and can see how many unsettled transactions that are in the pipeline. When transactions are settled we receive notice of the brutto ammounts and of the settlement charges invoked by the transactions and reverse transactions.
Such charges are of course the payment to the clearing house and to the credit card companies. Nobody gets the brutto amount.
It is completely understandable that conversion rates will fall when you request CVV codes.
Ask yourself the simple question :
Do I wish to trust a complete stranger with this extremely sensitive information ?
It is now an easy matter for an identity thief to sell credit card details to someone who will produce several copies of the credit card, and they can in turn empty an account in minutes if they coordinate their attack.
This kind of serious criminal act is unfortunately increasing, and this will make consumers wary of a small newly established business which might be bona fide or might be just a scam.
However, I will willingly give up the CVV code EVERY time we make an online payment for a flight and a hotel because the transaction and card details go through a highly sophisticated third party banking solution with an excrypted system.
Please confer with your regional bank and with the credit card clearing house about this matter.
Our national regulations are such that any single Visa or Mastercard transaction which is accepted by the terminal in real time will be paid to us within 4 days.
An AmEx transaction is normally paid out after 24 hours.
I agree with Sara Jarvis that one should stick to a clear rule about check In time ..we get young Americans and adult Indians who turn up at 10:30 knowing full well that Check In is from 14:00 ..we take care of their luggage and send them off with a smile and a hiking map.
We do give "early morning " incoming guests access to a toilet and to the garden of course, but never to unfinished rooms or to our breakfast dining areas .. that is just a hassle..
The guest looks on the accommodation as the vendor, and it is the accommodation who is legally responsible for declaring the Sales tax to the State.
An Invoice is an thing to create on an Excel worksheet, and it is an easy matter to formulate the worksheet to show the different rates of VAT.
