Lots of good tips! Thanks. We also find one night stays less rewarding. Mostly because we don't get to know our guests and they don't get to enjoy the facilities and area. They also often arrive late and leave early (which can disturb other guests). Longer stay guests become more like friends! We will try some of the ideas provided.
I'm with you Amanda. I didn't know how you get the stars either. My Grandmother always said "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all". Good policy, I think. Lesley
We used to accept children, until we had our first family stay. They slammed doors, jumped off beds, ran up and down the hall and wanted to play the piano at 7am to "wake up the other guests". The parents also sent them down at 7am for me to babysit and serve breakfast, and they were very rude and disrespectful 7 and 11 year old boys. I changed our property to "no children" while they were here. We will not be accepting any more children and any family turning up with them can find somewhere else to stay. It's just not worth the potential problems for other guests. And our adult guests prefer the peace and quiet.
I wouldn't give up on the forum yet. Although not all posters have English as a first language, there are many useful tips and solutions available. You should check out more topics. We are a very small (four bedroom) property, and the forum is a helpful way of connecting with others in our business. Lots of great advice and support.
