Yes I do the same.
I have a three room guesthouse on the beach in Sumner, and after about six months of having no fake bookings, they have just started again. I have had about 8 over the last three weeks. And yes they have changed their format. I see from a comment above that they are now listed as being from Australia, and this is right all of the fakes are from Australia. Usually the town they are from is a signal, when I google the name of the town eg Brancepeth in Australia - there is no such place. Then I ask for a confirmation by message with a time of arrival and if they don't reply I cancel the booking. Very annoying but luckily there is always something that jumps out as being bogus.
Yesterday received yet another bogus booking. Being a last minute booking and I was on other side of town, came back early and had room ready. Once booking sheet printed out I noticed address in Germany and Berlin had been typed in three times. Alarm bells and of course it was a no show. Very very annoying, when you turn heating on, have milk etc in room all ready. These bookings are becoming very tedious, cant see the sense in anyone wasting time making these bogus bookings, we are a small operation and do not have credit card facilities, so makes no sense to me. Only thing I can see is that it is a competitor of B.Com. i have had more bogus bookings in last month than legitimate ones. Soooo frustrating.
Joy, sounds like you in same boat as us. We dont have c/c or eftpos. Just internet transfer or cash. Yes air bnb very efficient with payment procedures but up until recently booking.com have sent us far more bookings. Maybe it is one of their competitors trying to get us to pull out from booking.com i think there must be a way booking.com can tighten up there systems because this is starting to become a big problem
Seems this problem is world wide. I run a small 3 room guest house in Christchurch, New Zealand. The bogus bookings started three months ago. Bookings with obvious fake name and address and of course no shows. These bogus bookings block the room for other legitimate guests. The last 8 out of 10 bookings received have been fake. Booking.com dont seem to have an answer to this problem, however I am able to pick up on the fakes now but it is starting to get very annoying now. Maybe its time for a change !!
