I have had 2 favourite ideal guests, as Imcan not choose I will tell you both
1) A snowflake age American man turned up about three 3 years ago with a fist full of tickets and a love of our local football matches which he acquired online at home he kindly invited me to one then popped off to Paris, Barcelona etc....to see the sights and their matches and back to me for another match, he won my heart when he dressed as Harry Potter to spend a day at Harry Potter land and seemed to have such a joy for living and experiencing everything. He comes at least 3 or 4 times a year and the team know him now....he brought his girl friend and Dad will come too in December I feel he is a guest but acts like one of my own sons. Kind polite and thoughtful, he always brings my favourite American magazines and even a bottle of vodka.
2) This guest booked and turned up late one night 18 months ago, I shall call him 007 he works all night in the city and turns up for breakfast .......sleeps at 2 and off to work at 7pm he is English and never forgets to bring home double fish and chips or pizza etc.....one for me, and on his time out invites me to his favourite pub and I’ve taken him to football. He is funny, respectful but truly amazing cleans his own room and phones if he is late. As he goes north at the weekend his shift can change and he is the only person I create a room from no where for, if I’m booked.
David, you are so right, I’m in a block of flats and a guest bought and cooked very smelly food near midnight last night which is awful for the neighbours.
He asked if he could have breakfast after he goes out shopping and returns today I said no the kitchen closes down at 10 am for breakfast,so I’m going to have to do a list of house rules which I avoided till now as in ABB all the rules are listed and I don’t know where to put them on my BDC listing.
Fluff that was naughty they should have told you....that’s why I only offer cereal and toast now it’s too expensive otherwise
i was worried about causing an illness with the diabetic
Now I have a 4 day kosher breakfast guynbooked that I need to google
Even hotel buffets don’t go to these lengths
dietry requirements should have a very clear box to help us all, I bought orange juice that could have seriously been wrong for my diabetic.
and people now want soya and almond milk that us small businesses can not carry.I used to put wine or beer as a gift people have started leaving them untouched.
If you host each room as twin bedded you would offer what you need
drop the word single in configuration and if you are worried about losing singletons make it clear that the listing is for singles too
insuggest you keep one room with a double that either a couple or a single can use and offer a discount to a singleton.
you can split the beds if needs be but don’t think you will lose the family trade
often 4 friends travel and are not partners but you don’t care as long as you market for one two three or four.....think of guests going to a wedding/or graduation they can request the 4 single beds....if one person books and pays for a family holiday or a stag do you will only have one review anyway.
Wendy you are so right but like my current guests ......a mature couple ....all the booking had been done by their children as they were not able to use the internet. It never pays to let a guest see the room before it’s ready, Just politely explain that as hotels do they can not go in until check in and send them away.....my couple had read no rules ...didn’t know there were any.

I have persuaded my local cafe to create gift cards so that I can send early guest there they can have coffee and cake or pay more and have a meal

That does not work fluff if they have no WiFi
the photo is a great idea but with 3rd party bookings also won’t work
how many times do we hear, my daughter, boss, hubby etc etc made the booking?
Eric why don’t you list it as a twin bedded room and explain in the description that an alternative double bed is available?
I list Double Bed private room but 75 percent of guests are single
of course I give a discount to singles reflecting utility use etc.....huge prices here in UK for gas water etc....
