We've played card games a couple of times with our guests initiated by them. It was so much fun. It's hard to know if they are interested in hanging out with us sometimes. We do have board games available. I wish I could play an instrument like the guitar by the fire.
If someone lets me know it's their anniversary or birthday, I put up one of those signs either in their room or at breakfast. I also try to have candles on hand to put in a muffin at breakfast. We are kind of far from a florist but we could have flowers here if they let us know ahead of time and their would be an extra charge for that.
Thanks M Adam...I put some batter in a squeeze bottle and add some more milk. Shake it up and squeeze some batter out on the griddle to form eyes and mouth. Let it cook a bit then add the rest of the batter. The face will be darker since it cooked longer.
My partner Craig and I live on 1 and 1/2 acres in Northern Bruce Peninsula, Ontario. We have 2 guest suites in the house, 2 cabins and a cottage on the same property. We can sleep up to 21 people. We don't serve breakfast to the people in the cottage but they can purchase it for extra. We have been running the bnb since December 2016. We have free range chickens for fresh eggs and bee hives. This year we are planting more gardens to attract the many birds in the area and to feed our bees and attract butterflies as well. Last year we put in a pond in our circle driveway. It will be a great feature that people will take photos of. Last year we also planted some raspberry bushes and this year we will add strawberry plants as well as some vegetables. We are in a rural area so it is very quiet. We are near the Bruce Trail so a lot of hikers like our location. We have free range chickens and some of our guests enjoy picking them up and of course gathering eggs with us in the morning. In the summer, a farmer has cows in the field. We also have some bee hives. This year we hope to teach people more about bees. We are adding more and more plants that bees, birds and butterflies are attracted to.
Our Pancakes always get a pleasant chuckle out of our guests. I put some batter in a bottle, add a little more milk and shake. Squirt the facial features in the skillet, let it cook a bit then add the rest of the batter on top. We serve local meats, one of our suppliers has given us a coupon to give to our guests. If they purchase meat from him, he gives us a discount. The bacon is quite good. Pancakes, waffles, muffins and such are made from scratch. We never know what people are going to eat. One year no one ate yogurt, the next year a lot of people did. So we put out yogurt, granola and fruit. I like to let people choose what fruit they want as I personally don't like all kinds of fruit. So I will put out a choice of 4 different kinds. I always have a muffin or a banana bread kind of food for breakfast. Orange juice, apple juice, coffee and tea or milk. We have our own free range chickens and people often comment on how good the eggs are. And those that don't usually eat eggs will when they see the chickens roaming about and refer to them as "happy chickens".
We have had the same issues with our cottage. We have it listed to sleep up to 8 people for a certain amount and add more money for up to 2 more people. But they just bring extra people and even bring sleeping bags with them and sleep on the floor. One time they put our table and chairs outside and it was raining. We have decided to only say it sleeps 8 people. I have also thought about putting a security camera near the entrance. We have also charged extra on a guests credit card with permission from booking.com. We find most people don't read the emails we send out because they get so many each day.

My husband has lots of funny stories to tell from his adventures in the area and we often find something in common to talk about with our guests.
