You don't understand.
For better understanding:
1. You send an email to the guest (via extranet) that you require a deposit.
2. Lets say that the guest didn't respond in three days:
Basicly everything is solved if you can take deposits after booking is made.
It's either a full payment, a partial payment or just a deposit for the damage.
You give the guest a deadline (let's say 3 days) if the guest doesn't respond, you mark in extranet that guest didn't make the payment. Booking.com automaticly contacts the guest and if he doesn't respond in 24h with a magic click you can cancel their booking.

This tool is automated. You don't have to wait for noone. Once you made a report, the guest has 24h to respond. After 24h you just click the magic button and the booking is canceled. It's basicly faster.
Notifications are awful.
When I write a reply to a thread/post, I receive a notification for myself. A lot of spam in my inbox.
No preview of the written post in email.
When I click on a link, I basicly have to search for a recent post.
Quite annoying and basicly it's forcing you not to participate anymore.
You can change the policies in extranet and request a pre-payment via bank transfer (full or partial) before their arrival. You send the bank details to the guest with a deadline.
Maybe it's difficult to reach them, because everyone has tons of unecessary questions and the line is too busy. Prehaps you can find some answers here.
