Some of the cc info is scrambled as the payment is done automatically when the guest supplies cc info, so you do not even need a card machine. Nightsbridge takes the payment for you and then settles less their commission. So you are not a merchant and set up is quick.
If guests still opt an eft option I still send them the paybridge link generated from my own platform stressing that it is personalised and they seem to be more agreeable to using the link. You can set this up as 3d secure or not, without 3d secure there is a higher chance of charge backs but if you do a little paperwork it can be avoided. I have a form emailed from paybridge that I use to get the guest to sign and do an imprint of the card and then I just take a picture of their ID with my phone. It is a little more footwork but a lot less stress. And this has to be kept for 6 months.
Doing this has reduced my cancellation tremendously.
I would like to be able to blacklist dodgy and troublesome guests on this site so they do not become a problem to other establishments.
I really do not like the fact that the main marketing feature of booking.com SA is "no deposit required" A deposit is vital in South Africa to confirm bookings as the number of cancellations and no shows is huge...And all in part because guests think they can book multiple places "just in case" This has been told to me by a booking.com guest. In the meantime we lose income.
This has been a big issue with me for the last year as I find in South Africa we get a huge amount of bookings that are a no show unless they have paid a deposit. I currently use a booking system called nightsbridge that offer a credit card payment portal, and yes it is pricey but it is far better than losing income to no shows. If you have a reservation system that offers this then it may be worth considering.
