It is presumably a bug in the system but BDC do not profer any explanation. We've also had a few cases without booking notification but have received the reminder.
So far we've been lucky and able to accommodate but the evil day will come if these instances continue.
It's also not unique to BDC, though thankfully few in number.
We most recently had a booking we knew nothing about appear on an invoice. Again found it as a cancelled booking in extranet. Charged to us because we didn't mark it as waived charge. We did of course contact BDC and they promptly admitted error, agreeing to revise the invoice.
As Barry already said, check your extranet for the booking. That is the final word as far as you are concerned.
I assume the customer showed you his booking number???
If that, or his name do not appear in your extranet he's a fraudster.
We have had a handful of instances over the years where a customer has arrived for check in but we knew nothing about it. No booking notification or check in reminder either by email or Pulse BUT the booking was in extranet when searched.
We do attract a measurable percentage of female solo travellers, although a significantly larger amount of single male travellers.
Our multi- camera cctv monitor is displayed for all to see in reception with all general areas covered.
A few blind spots are covered by a secondary system we monitor more discretely.
Anyone and everyone that enters the hotel and is not a guest of whom we have taken copies of their passports at check in, must leave original, photo I.D. at reception, no I.D. = no entry.
Single travellers, especially females, like to know that they are in a safe environment.
We don't actively target solo female guests although we believe the above is attractive to them and we have seen a small but steady increase, mostly by personal recommendation.
We also try to keep female solo guests on floors away from any number of single/buddy pairs or groups of males, preferring to place the single ladies on floors with families/couples or other like guests.
As regulars may have noticed my contributions have dropped off sharply.
This is mainly due to the very poor format of this forum.
Despite pointing out it's many failings that interfere with ease of use and navigation, nothing has changed. As the forum grows the failings become more troublesome.
Path of least resistance is the golden rule, in this case reduced or total lack of participation.
This is a great shame as the availability of this forum was an inspired idea, a way to get real world answers to awkward questions, most of which the support team on extranet avoid. The load on same team is also lightened.
This is the system BDC have in place and we have to work with it.
I would suggest being stricter with your staff. If they know they are supposed to waive charges but neglect to do so then make it clear the next time the charge will come out of their salary!!!

A question for those who run the forum.
Why has a non-partner managed to login to the forum? Not the first one either.
Is it not necessary to have a property number to login?
Would it not be easier to approach the hotels in your area and deal directly with them?

Ultimately it's up to you but for me I'd ask for proof of cancelling flights and any other properties if booked.
If provided then I'd oblige.

I bet the occurrence will disappear.
